Introduction

At StarPup, our mission is to create a lasting bond between owners and their “forever friends” based on education, enrichment and positive communication. StarPup Training specializes in teaching owners how to remove barriers to obedience and communicate with dogs without using words. With a family-friendly approach, we focus on getting to know each dog as an individual so as to provide a personalized training experience. Ultimately, we want to help owners to understand how to get dogs to exhibit desired behaviors, while helping dogs to retain what they've learned! Our methods are based on 100% positive reinforcement and are framed by the latest scientific studies and ethics in the field.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My training price is the best deal you'll find for a 100% positive reinforcement trainer (or any trainer for that matter) in San Diego. Each of my training sessions includes a step by step instruction email of the session had with videos. I offer Discounts a few times a year. With StatPup Dog Training, you're not locked into a contract (though a two lesson minimum is required). I offer three (3) payment plans/options for all clients.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I offer a free phone consultation in which we discuss- the reason for seeking a trainer, areas the caretaker wishes to target, and possible underlying causes of the dogs behavior so we can build a plan to address the behavior. If, however, you are looking for boarding or house sitting, I offer a free meet-and-greet before the stay.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
StarPup Dog Training was founded in 2022. However, my passion for dog training came much earlier. I've volunteered my talents with local for-profit and non-profit organizations. I've trained dozens of dogs for free weather it's family dogs, dogs that belong to strangers or friends. By utilizing the method to train "the dog in front of me," I have been able to train different breeds, sizes, ages. Like humans, there are no two dogs that are the exact same, why then should we have a cookie cutter approach to training?

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have long loved all animals. As a child I wanted to become a veterinarian, until I realized how many years that would take. I opted instead to get into healthcare. I did this line of work for over 15 years, working with mainly nonverbal beings. It was there I realized I was exceptional at communicating with nonverbal being. So, in 2022 I cupled both of my passions and began "StarPup Dog Training. " I've since volunteered my talents with local organizations. I offer the lowest possible price per training sessions so that everyone can benefit from a beautiful relationship with their fur-baby(s).

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with all types- different ages, sizes, breeds, temperaments, energy levels, reactivity levels, "aggression ," etc.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Ask questions- what methods of training do they use? What tools they use? Do they use e-collar, choke collars, prong collars? Can they provide references from past clients? Do they tailor the training to each dog or do they offer a "one size fits all" type of training?

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Like most professions, there are different TYPES of trainers- (positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment, negative punishment, balanced, behavior modification and so on) do some research and find the TYPE of trainer you are willing to work with. Make sure that whatever type or trainer you select use modern, ethical training methods backed by reputable companies (ABTC, CCPDT, IAABC, etc.)
