Introduction

Hey Dog Parents, I'm Lynsey. And I believe your dog should be part of your active lifestyle. I get it dog moms and dads. You got a dog to be part of your active lifestyle. Whether that means weekends hiking in the woods, sipping craft beer at your local brewery, or a quiet weekend snuggling on the couch, your dog should be your partner in crime. I also know what it's like to be unable to do anything with your dog. It hurts your heart and soul when you cannot share your lifestyle with your pup. It's heartbreaking. But it doesn't need to be that way. I help dog parents achieve their dream dog through dog training to transform any dog into a well-behaved and balanced family member. When you post your job on Thumbtack, if you do not put in any details about your dog and what you need help with, we will not contact you. Give us much detail as possible so that a pro will reach out to help you get started in solving your issues. Thumbtack sends an automatic reply on our behalf with a quote based on the words you provided. This may not reflect your training needs so please reach out so we can discuss your dog's issues. A quick note on scheduling training: We're currently booking into January 2026 for our Doggy Boot Camp Board & Train Programs with only a few scattered spots available before then. If you need help now, please schedule a call. Lynsey will come out to your home to get you started in the training process before your pup comes to us to learn!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've been working with dogs since I was 16 years old. I've worked for several county animal service units and animal shelters and continue to volunteer to help dogs in our community. I've owned Sunshine K9 Training since March of 2019 and have been helping owners solve serious dog problems ever since. I have shadowed world renowned dog trainers and am forever learning as dogs have so much to teach us. I am an AKC Canine Good Citizen and S.T.A.R. Puppy evaluator. I have also received a certification in the utilization of Herm Sprenger prong collars. While working in the Atlanta area, I went through the licensing process to be able to board & train dogs in my home. We adhere to all state and county permitting processes and welcome questions about our Standard Operating Procedures regarding cleaning, temperatures, emergency situations, and record keeping. For any questions regarding this information, please don't hesitate to ask.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began volunteering at a shelter in Massachusetts at 16 years old which is how my career in animal care began. I've always worked with dogs and have a soft side for the dogs that are more difficult to deal with. In 2017, I adopted a dog that was due to be euthanized because of his bite history. The turn around he made showed me how much of a difference I can make for animals. I started my training company in 2019 with my main goal being to keep naughty pups out of shelters by teaching their owners how to train them effectively. I want people to live in harmony with their dogs and be able to rest easy knowing that they've got a well trained animal that can go just about anywhere with them.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with people from all walks of life. From the working mom, to people bound to wheel chairs, veterans, other dog trainers, vet staff, groomers, and even small kids. I work with all types of dogs, large and small, although we mainly see medium to extra large dogs in our programs. Any age and any breed.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
My most recent difficult pup project was a dog named Oliver. He's a Great Dane, Pyrenees mix that resembles one of my own dogs, but he's Extra Extra Large! Oliver had such severe separation anxiety that he did thousands of dollars worth of damage to his owner's home and was hurting himself in his successful attempts to break out of his kennel. He had no obedience training because his owner simply didn't have the time to put in the repetition it takes for dogs to learn. We see this often and we're happy to help. Oliver came to a 3 week board & train program and I was able to work through his crate breaking habits. His anxiety plummeted and his confidence rose greatly. I'm so proud of his owner for maintaining all the good stuff after training. She often sends him back to board with me when she leaves town because she knows that he will be safe and comfortable with us.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
You should absolutely vibe with your dog trainer. If you can't communicate with the person working with your family member, you may struggle. Get on the phone with the person you want to hire. Schedule some time to chat so that you can learn more about them and they can learn more about you and see if you're a good fit for their program. You want to make sure that the person you hire has the experience needed to help you solve your problem quickly, ethically and effectively. In the world of dog training, a well-trained dog does not come cheap and it does not come without effort on your part as a dog owner. If cost is an issue, be upfront so that you can find out about payment options and see if they are right for your situation.
