Introduction

Training: I can help with puppy training, basic cues, leave it, loose leash walking, emergency recall and some behavior issues. My goal is to help you understand how to "speak dog". Dog training is mostly "human training with a dog". Let me help you learn to better understand your dog, work with you to teach them basic manners, help understand behavior issues and develop a plan to help. I have trained over 160 dogs in group classed, individual sessions and in a shelter environment. Training in different environments has helped me become more understanding of clients and of various behavior concerns. I would love to help, whether you just brought home a fluffy new puppy, newly rescued a lucky dog, want to brush up on some things, or have concerns. Reach out and we can discuss your goals. Nature Dogz is licensed, bonded, insured and pet first aid certified. I am a certified dog trainer, having earned my CPDT-KA certification in February 2022. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer training for basic obedience, life skills, behavior issues and puppy training. The individual session fee is $75.00, and packages are available. Please contact me to talk about a plan.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I will do an intake call to discuss your goals, concerns and expectations. If we agree it will be a good fit, then we will set up a date for our first session. Prior to the first session, I will email you an intake form, contract and any questions that would better help me develop a plan. If at any point, either party can terminate the agreement. Training relies on consistency, practice and patience. Results are not guaranteed without those.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always wanted to work with dogs so when I left my management job of 25 years, I decided to follow my passion. One of my dogs displayed a lot of fear reactivity and I wanted to learn how to help him. I decided to become a trainer to help him, help with shelter dogs, and ultimately help others build a better bond with their best friends. I have enjoyed working with both the human and canine clients on my journey so far and look forward to meeting more in the future.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with families with small children, who are learning to play with their puppy in the correct way, while also teaching the puppy some manners. I also have a lot of clients that have dogs with issues jumping, nipping, pulling on leash etc. Through basic manners training a lot of this is addressed and the clients understand how to better interact and reinforce behaviors. On several occasions, I have worked with families to help with reactive dogs, in home and outside.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Establishing my business and meeting great people and their dogs along the way has been my favorite recent project. I cannot put an end date on training as it is an ongoing process for the family. My favorite success was an Australian Shepard puppy who was aggressive toward me at first, so much so that he needed to wear a muzzle around any new people. Over time, and with training, education of the humans, and lots of patience, we got to the point where he did not need the muzzle and would come up to me calmly. I have seen him since and he can now welcome people into his space without the anxiety.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

My advice it to hire a certified trainer and be ready to work. Unfortunately, anyone can hang a shingle and say they are certified but the CPDT-KA certification is nationally recognized. Also, set your expectations where your dog is to start with. Your training will be much more successful if you do. Always hire a positive trainer!! I do not use choke, prong or e-collars,
