What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I ask my clients what their goals are and the behaviors they need adjusted for their pups. My goal is to help you and your dog have a better life together! :)

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I possess over a decade of hands-on dog training experience, during which I have honed my skills through self-directed learning and practical application. My expertise is supported by extensive study comparable to those of renowned professionals in the field.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I was always fearful of dogs growing up. A bite at a young age left me traumatized, and since then, I avoided dogs for years, missing out on countless experiences. I never believed I could overcome this fear and love dogs again. Then Sedona arrived and changed my life forever. Our start was rocky, but she helped me conquer my fear. She stood by me at my lowest and celebrated my best moments. She taught me so much about dogs. She was my sister and best friend. Our beloved Shih Tzu, Sedona, passed away a few years ago. I promised her that I would help as many animals as I can until we meet again. This is dedicated to her and all the dogs I hope to help. Thank you for reading this. Please take care of your fur baby. Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I was able to help my client help her pup overcome anxiety and fear. Through a single session, I guided his human in implementing positive reinforcement techniques to build the his confidence. As a result, he now navigates outdoor walks with ease and without hesitation.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When selecting a dog trainer, prioritize professionals who employ positive reinforcement techniques. If circumstances require the use of an e-collar or prong collar, ensure the trainer is highly experienced in their proper application and uses them minimally and appropriately. Avoid excessive reliance on shock or prong collars, as they can exacerbate aggression and other behavioral issues. Provide your trainer as much information as possible (health, previous training, home environment, behavior issues etc.) and ask questions!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

When evaluating potential dog trainers, inquire about their training methods. Specifically, ask whether they use shock collars, prong collars, or techniques that induce learned helplessness. If they confirm the use of these methods, it is advisable to seek an alternative trainer. What is the reason they started their career in dog training? Ask for referrals!
