Insured for your peace of mind. My training style is positive based and figuring out what motivates the dog, what the family needs pup to do/not do and translate for the two. Dogs speak and understand differently than humans do, to help the humans understand that is key. Working in rescue and being exposed to thousands of dogs from all walks of life and issues has given me the tools to help work with them. Supporting foster and adoptive homes to these animals helps me to be able to communicate what will work best for their pup. There's no 'one size fits all' training plan in my experience. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I can customize packages based on what you need. Let me know what you need and we will see if I can help! Pet sitting check in visits start at $27 (varies on location, season and animals), Dog training packages available with sessions as low as $100 per session.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to get to know what my customers are looking for and if I'm able to provide them that and maybe even more. If I can, we schedule a meet and greet and go over what the expectations are for the care of the pets. I can meet the pets and they can meet me so the first time we're meeting isn't when their humans aren't home. If it's a good fit for all, we can book the services. For training a phone consultation can provide what needs to be worked on and I can customize a training plan for the specific dog and family. Positive training and teaching dogs to understand what's being asked of them and humans how to understand their dog is key.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Over 25 years in animal rescue, including volunteering in shelters has been tremendous in training me for a variety of animals and situations. Not having an owner to tell you their likes/dislikes and needs means you have to figure it out on your own and rather quickly. Their safety and yours depends on it! Working with dogs to get them adoptable when they've been abused or neglected is the most rewarding job.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've always had a connection with animals, especially the shy, sick and inured ones. My passion for animals led me to start LAPS. As an animal rescuer with special needs animals I quickly realized that it was nearly impossible to find someone I could trust with them to be able to take a vacation or even a night away. I wanted to start my own business so that other people could take a break, recharge and not have to worry about their pets at home. I love all animals, seniors and special needs (blind, deaf, health issues) have a special place in my heart. I do my best to make sure to get to know them, listen to them and what they want or need. Keeping the family updated while they're away is important. Whether it's an update, pics or short video it helps to put their mind at ease. It's important to put myself in the customer's shoes to help them to relax while they're away.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I work with a variety of humans and dogs. Happy go lucky puppies to fearful and shy dogs that have suffered years of abuse and neglect. I try to get as much information from the humans to be able to give the pets the attention they need and deserve while their humans are away and to help dogs thrive with training to have long and happy lives in their home.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Staying for a week with 2 pups, one that was not used to strangers in her home and coming 'home' to them tail wags and excited to see me. That's so rewarding! Being able to earn a shy or scared dog's trust is priceless.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

My best advice is to take advantage of the meet and greet to use it as an interview. Even before then, get a feel for the sitter. Unfortunately some people think pet sitting/dog walking/dog training is an easy quick way to make money. They aren't invested into the business and I often get calls of last minute cancels from sitters and now the humans are in a bind. When it comes to the care of your pets and home, please don't shop just by price but proven experience. Not all training is equal. Not every dog learns the same way and it's important the humans get trained too! Make sure you know how to continue the training long after the trainer leaves or you could be back in the same spot you were.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Booking a service that's about taking care of your furry family members should be thought out in advance. Plan ahead and find your person and book them as soon as you can. Great pet sitters/trainers have their schedules fill up quickly and you don't want to miss out and have to find someone else on short notice.
