Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge $150 per session for private lessons and offer discounts for payment in advance and for semi-private sessions.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
After text messaging and an agreement to work together is reached an initial appointment is made. At that appointment I meet both the dog and relevant family members. I assess the dog's temperament and get a history from the owner(s). This enables me to develop a training plan and to begin working with the dog.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and do continuing education through this organization and other experts. I am also an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started with training my standard poodle and German Shepherd dog to compete in companion dogs sports.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I do both short and long term behavior modification training as well as puppy training. I can also assist those interested in dog sports. Contact me during puppy planning too!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I have puppy projects and adult dog projects that are ongoing where the whole family is engaged with training and where homework gets done regularly. I see great progress for these families.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure you feel comfortable with the techniques a trainer wants to use and that they understand their tools. I give a consultation visit and follow that with a recommended plan before clients commit to hiring me for engaging the plan. I think this helps create trust in the new relationship.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What experience does the expert have? Can they demonstrate their expertise with credentials?
