Introduction

At K9 Social Club your pet lives with me in my home during the board and train program. I have not only trained individuals dogs since 1980 but have trained and competed with my dogs on a local and National level in many dog sports. A few of the dog sports I have been involved in are obedience, agility,disc dogs,dock diving,herding,tracking and Schutzhund. Because of competing in a variety of dog sports I truly understand a dogs temperament and how that can affect the learning process. I attend seminars on a regular basis so as to stay up with the newest training technics. I have been training and grooming dogs since 1980. We have experience with all breeds of dogs. I develop a training program to fit your expectations with your specific pet. We use positive reinforcement to begin training with each pet. Your pet is kept in my home so that it learns what it's job is in real life situations. Most problems with pets stems from a lack of leadership and communication. We help you to understand the underlying issues with your pet and help to fix them

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Pricing for training is according to what type of training and the time involved. I offer a Board and Train program that starts at $1200 for a three week program. I also do in home training and the price starts at $150 for the first visit and $125 each visit afterwards.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I believe communication is of up most importance. The first thing I do is discuss the customers needs. If it is dog training I do a consult and discuss your pets habits and temperament and design a plan that will meet your expectations. With grooming I discuss in length what you want done with your pet.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been training and grooming dogs are since 1980. I have owned my own businesses during most of those years. I attend seminars on a regular basis to further my education.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

My first job in 1979 was working at a kennels where drug dogs were bred and trained. I always loved dogs and wanted to train them. My second job was as a bather at a grooming shop. The owner trained me in the art of grooming. A few years later I bought the business in Webster Texas. My business later moved to the North West side of Houston.

What types of customers have you worked with?

As far as training goes I have worked with many breeds large and small. Each dog has their own temperament and challenges. Over 40+ yrs experience I have a very good abilty to read dogs and decide on a particular training method that will work for them and their owners. With grooming I have worked with dogs from puppy hood to the senior citizen. Again communication is so important with both jobs.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I trained an Australian Shepherd that I was.the breeder of for a service dog. The young lady suffered from PTSD, and tardive disconesia. This was a three year project. It was very satisfying to know that I had a part in training a service dog to do task that in the end made someone's life so much easier and brought comfort to them during their times of PTSD.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Years of experience and references. Look for someone who takes the time to discuss exactly what your expectations are. With training, ask for information about training methods and a plan of what will be done with your pet. Also that they are upfront and realistic with what can be achieved as an end goal with your pet. With grooming look for a groomer who ask lots of questions to determine how you want your pet groomed. Communication is key!!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

For training ask about experience. Get information about what the plan is for your pet. Ask questions about what your job will be once your pet goes home from training. Ask if they are willing to be there for you if you have questions once you get your pet home. For grooming, how many years of experience do they have.
