Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
At Alpha Tail Academy, we understand that every dog is unique and has different needs, which is why our pricing varies depending on the specific requirements of each dog and their owner. The best way to determine the right package and pricing is to set up a free evaluation where we can assess your dog’s behavior and discuss tailored training options. Any business that offers a fixed price upfront without an assessment may not fully understand the individual needs of your dog. We aim to provide transparent, customized pricing to ensure the best results. Discounts or special offers may be available occasionally, and we’re happy to discuss those during your evaluation. You can sign up for the free evaluation on our website!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We start with a free in-home evaluation, where one of our professional trainers meets with you and your dog in your own environment. This consultation allows us to understand your dog’s behavior, background, daily routines, and your training goals. From there, we design a custom training plan tailored to your dog’s age, temperament, and learning style — whether that means confidence building, behavior modification, socialization, or advanced obedience. We offer both in-home training for real-world results on your schedule and board-and-train programs for dogs who need more intensive support. Throughout the process, we stay in close contact with regular updates, coaching, and guidance. Because no two dogs are the same, we use a variety of proven training methods and adjust as needed to ensure meaningful, lasting progress — not just during sessions, but well beyond.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Our team brings a strong foundation of professional certifications and hands-on experience in canine behavior, learning theory, and species-specific communication. Each trainer has completed extensive education, mentorship, and real-world behavioral case work with dogs of all backgrounds — from high-drive working breeds to misunderstood family pets. At Alpha Tail Academy, we believe there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. That’s why we’re skilled in a variety of training methods, allowing us to adapt our techniques based on how each individual dog learns, responds, and thrives. We are also certified AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluators and regularly expand our knowledge through continuing education, workshops, and collaboration with veterinary professionals.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Alpha Tail Academy was founded out of a passion for helping dogs and people build relationships rooted in trust and communication. Our journey began working with shelter dogs and rescues — dogs no one else wanted to work with — and seeing how the right approach could completely turn their lives around. That experience showed us that training is never just about obedience; it’s about understanding behavior, emotions, and the human-animal bond. Over time, we expanded into a full team dedicated to providing accessible, effective, and empathetic training to dogs of every breed, temperament, and background.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with a wide variety of dog owners—from first-time puppy parents to experienced handlers, as well as clients with dogs that have behavioral challenges such as anxiety, aggression, or excessive barking. Our clients come from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, including busy professionals, families with children, seniors, and active individuals who want a well-trained companion. No matter the dog’s breed, age, or temperament, we tailor our training to fit both the dog and the owner’s goals for a successful partnership.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One of our most rewarding recent projects was with a 2-year-old Cane Corso named Zeus who had been labeled “aggressive” by other trainers and was on the verge of being rehomed. His family was heartbroken and out of options. Over a 6-week program — a mix of in-home training and board-and-train — we unraveled the root of his fear-based reactivity, helped him feel safe, and taught the family how to confidently lead him through everyday triggers. Today, Zeus is a different dog: calm on walks, focused around guests, and finally able to just be a dog again. It’s stories like his that remind us why we do what we do.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Don’t just look for credentials — look for connection. The best trainer for your dog is someone who listens to your concerns, understands your goals, and communicates clearly with both you and your pup. Avoid trainers who rely on fear, pain, or dominance-based methods — modern, science-based training should be built on respect, reinforcement, and results. Ask about their process, what methods they use, and how they’ll help you become part of the training solution. At Alpha Tail Academy, we believe your success starts with education, empathy, and trust — and we work hard to earn it from day one.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Before reaching out to a trainer, take time to think through a few key things: • What specific behaviors are you trying to change or improve? • What does a successful outcome look like for you and your dog? • How involved do you want to be in the training process? • Would you prefer hands-on coaching through in-home sessions, or would a board-and-train program be a better fit for your schedule? • How does your dog typically respond to new environments, people, or challenges? These answers help us recommend the best approach for your dog’s needs and your lifestyle. But no matter which route you choose, it’s important to know that you’ll still be trained too — we’ll teach you how to reinforce the behavior, build trust, and maintain long-term results. At Alpha Tail Academy, we believe the best results happen when both the dog and the human grow together, and we adapt our methods to suit each unique situation — not the other way around.
