Introduction

My nature is one of friendliness, flexibility, honesty, reliability, the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and to meet or exceed clients’ expectations. I've been responsible for a variety of dogs (and cats), including rescues, pure breeds, varying sizes and dispositions, those with health issues such as strokes, heart disease, cancer, Cushings' disease, those in braces, and blind and deaf dogs. I'm experienced with administering medications, and have much respect and love for each animal, as the individuals they are. I never overbook, and once hired, commit to a job, taking full responsibility to meet the owners' needs and expectations. Pets are family members, no less, and I have much affection to share.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For driving services, dog-walking and kitty-care, my standard rate is $25 per hour, walk, or home visit. If more than one hour is needed at a time, the rate goes down. For housesitting, with or without pets, the rate is negotiable, ranging from $65.00-$95.00 per night, depending entirely on what and how many pets there are, and all of the responsibilities included during my stay. For example, are medications to be dispensed? Do any of the pets have special needs? Mail brought in? Cars moved? Trash out? Watering of plants? Linens changed? The answers to these questions and others determine the rate. No two jobs are alike!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First, I like and need to learn exactly what it is the customer wants and for how long. After meeting, we both decide whether I'm a good fit for the job, based on my experience, knowledge, and a mutual understanding about the client's expectations.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My training and education is directly related to my life experience of working and caring for animals and others' homes. I pride myself in using intuition, experience and understanding when it comes to applying my knowledge and experience to the clients' needs.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
After retiring from years of massage therapy work, I decided to use experience from my life, which has included guided road-trips around the country and the state (driving service), and care- taking properties big and small, with responsibilities that included gardening maintenance, to the care of animals large and small, ranging from cats to horses.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with various types of customers, ranging from young professionals to retirees, in need of animal care or housesitting, or driving services, including day trips to the wine country.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A recent job included caring for three dogs, a cat and a fish pond at a home in Marin, while the owners were out of town for a couple of weeks. The responsibilities included feeding and grooming the animals, walking the dogs twice a day (or more), administering medications, watering plants that weren't on the drip system, taking out and bringing in the trash cans, gathering the mail from the box 1/4 mile down the road, and keeping the house clean and well-maintained.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
A customer would do well to consider the experience of the provider, as well as the nature and personality of the provider, as everyone is different. Also, reading the reviews of past clients is helpful in learning more about how the provider deals with different situations, tasks at hand, and whether the expectations of the client will be met.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
In order to offer a fair and competitive quote, it's important for customers to think through the length of time of the job, and specific details as to what their needs will entail. With that information, the person (such as myself) will be able to give a more accurate quote upon the first request, negating the necessity of needing to ask several questions first. It's imperative to have a clear understanding as to all of the responsibilities before starting a job, rather than having many new and different expectations/requirements left on a note at the house, after the initial interview, when it may be too late to discuss necessary details.
