What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Upon receiving a request for service, we will set up a complimentary initial consultation to meet the client and their pet(s). Prior to the consultation, we will email them a few forms that all of our new clients need to complete: a Client Service Agreement and a Veterinary Release form. These forms allow us the information necessary to provide the best care for your pet. At the consultation, the founder (Joelyne King) will pick up these forms, along with two sets of keys. Clients will receive a real time email notifying them after their walk has been completed and the details of their walk, whether the dog went no. 1 or no. 2 and if it was fed, if that was requested. The pet care professional will also leave you detailed notes about the visit. If you are hiring us for pet sitting, you will also receive these email notifications after each visit in addition to a pet report card upon your arrival home. The owner of the company and it's branch managers are always reachable during normal business hours and after-hours for emergencies. Emails and phones are answered daily if not instantly, within a few hours. You will get a response. We understand how important it is to make ourselves reachable when your pet(s) are in our care.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We renew our Pet CPR/ First Aid training yearly. We are also members of Pet Sitters International and are always taking their pet care provider seminars, to enhance our knowledge further. All of our sitters have a background in pet care and have pets of their own. You will be assigned a primary pet care provider and a back up sitter in case your primary sitter is not available. We ALWAYS have a back up plan. We are always working one-on-one with our pet care professionals to ensure they provide your pets with the best possible care.

What types of customers have you worked with?
We have worked with a wide range of pets including dogs, cats, small animals such as ferrets, gerbils, rabbits, hamsters, birds, exotic birds and reptiles. We have experience caring and medicating geriatric and sick pets, as well in addition to blind, deaf and handicap animals that requires assistance getting around.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Because I am highly involved in the animal welfare field, I am always working with local rescue groups in the re-homing of animals. I also work closely with feral cat groups to aid in the reduction of the cat overpopulation problem through humane options, such as Trap-Neuter-Return. A recent accomplishment that I am very proud of has been my ability to re-home pets various pets of friends and from other rescue groups. This past year (2015) I found new home for 11 animals. It brings me joy knowing that I was able to save these pets from having to be placed into an animal shelter. I am always willing to help people re-home their pets if they have no other feasible options. Of course, I will always encourage individuals to keep their pets if they can and if they need resources in order to help them do so, I am willing to help them find those resources for the sake of them and their pets.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be sure to check references and that you hire a bonded and insured company. Additionally, ensure that the company you are hiring does not outsource their work to independent contractors. When they do this, they essentially have zero control over what they do in your home. They are not actual employees of their company. All of our pet care professionals are employees that report to us at the beginning and end of their work day. By hiring a qualified pet care professional that has been vetted through a reputable pet company, you do not have to worry about the pets safety or the safety of your home and its belongings.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Prior to speaking to or meeting with your potential pet care professional, be sure to have a prepared checklist of items that you want to discuss with your pet care provider. At Prance Around Pet Services, Inc. we recognize that your pet(s) needs are likely different from other pets we have cared for and we take this into consideration when asking you all the details of your particular request.
These items pet parents should be ready to ask, include:
Asking basic information about the length of time they have providing the type of service you are requesting.
Does the pet care professional have experience with the type of pet you are enlisting in their care?
Do they have back up in case they become ill or unable to attend for your pet, while under their supervision?
What are their qualifications for adding people to their team of pet care professionals?
In the case of inclement weather, what is the pet care providers plan of action for the care of your pets?
Along with the basic instructions for how to properly care for your particular pet, with these added questions, you should be able to ensure that you have most of your concerns covered. Granted last minute changes will come up and you should always work with a company that allows you the opportunity to communicate with them, as needed. At Prance Around Pet Services all of the communication is streamlined through the main office and clients speak to the owner directly, regarding any and all changes to their pet(s) needs. There is no middle-man involved. These are the basic types of questions we expect our clients to ask us, because we want to make sure our clients feel comfortable that their pets' well-being is in not in question, while under our care.
We hope you find these helpful and will use them on us, when you reach out to us for services!
