Introduction

We have been serving our clients since 1994. Most of the team of sitters have been with Society Pet Sitter, Inc. up to 10 years. We run thorough background checks on every sitter and interview each one before they are hired. We are bonded and insured as well. In this profession, you have to have a passion for animals. I personally have had that all of my life. Now in my career, what I love the most is knowing that we are helping out each pet owner in his/her daily life. We have several doctors who we pet sit for. When they are called in to do a heart transplant at 3:00 a.m. and send a text asking for us to do a breakfast visit for their pets, we are able to jump in and ensure their babies are taken care of. It's more than just a job; it feels like we're giving back.

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We set up an initial meet and greet so that the client can meet their sitters and show them their pet's routine. We assign a primary and a back-up sitter, just in case the primary is out for any reason, the client has already met the back-up and can step right in to take care of their fur babies.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
When I first started this business there were only 3 pet sitting companies in Dallas. No one had even heard of pet sitting. I was working at a local veterinarian as a tech. Some of the dogs and cats did okay in the kennel situation. Most did not. The most that did not really should have been at home.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
What we do the most of are daily dog walks, as well as vacation clients. We work with all kinds of professionals that work long hours and can't make it home to take the dog out for a potty break and some exercise.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure to check them out. That they are bonded and insured. And the most important thing is that you and your pet feel comfortable with your sitter. I had a client not feel comfortable with the sitter that came to meet them for the interview and they called and let me know. I am glad that they called and talked to me because I was able to set them up with another sitter that was in their area of town and they have been clients for over 5 years now. Some people just don't mesh with others and that is fine. I want each client to feel comfortable and able to communicate what they need. We will do the best we can to find the right match for everyone.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
A lot of people that I run into always comment after I say that I am a pet sitter, "Oh how fun! That must be a pretty easy job" Well, it is a GREAT job, but I would not say easy by any means. We are like the post man but we do not get a day off. This is a 24hr a day 7 days a week job. We walk in the rain, snow, and heat of the summer. In Dallas this is like an extreme sport. Since we are on call every day of the week and work as a team of sitters. Each client has a back up sitter and will be notified if a sitter is needing a couple of well deserved days off.
