Introduction

What busy pet parents want more than anything is peace of mind, and that is what Stable Hands Pet Care and Services has been providing our clients since 2015. Stable Hands is a team of local pet care professionals who are both animal loves and pet caregivers. We love the pets in our care but also understand the responsibility of caring for someone else's best furever friend. We provide visits of 10-20 minutes, 20-30, and 30-45 throughout the day. After each visit, our clients receive a message containing pictures of their pet and a description of our adventures for the day. Clients can update their profile and their pet's profile at anytime to insure the best care possible.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We offer mid-day dog walking and cat sitting visits at the rates of $15 for 15 minutes, $17 for 20, $20 for 30, $27.00 for 45, and $35 for 60. We also offer overnight visits for $80 and pet taxi services at $35.00 for one way and $50.00 for same day round trip. Our visits can be purchased as part of a package for a small discount and can be used for our mid-day dog walking, cat sitting, and vacation pet sitting services.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Before service begins we arrange a time that is convenient for them for a meet and greet to get to know their pet and go over their pet's routine, location of important items, and any special requirements for the care of their pet. Once service has begun we use Time to Pet to send messages, photos, and a report of what their pet has done after each visit. We like to keep our clients engaged throughout the duration of their booking. We are, after all, their partners in pet care.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We have been professional pet sitters since 2009. We also volunteer at Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center and have completed their cat and dog handling training. My wife Lara grew up on a dairy farm and has 20 plus years of experience in the horse industry and a degree in equine science. I have been around animals my entire life and now have made my passion my profession. We are also pet CPR and First Aid certified and have experience giving medications of all types up to and including subcutaneous shots such as those for diabetes. On top of this we have studied the teachings of such animal luminaries such as Karen Pryor, Dr. Sophia Yin, and Jean Donaldson.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Lara Huzzard grew up on a dairy farm and earned her degree in equine science. A career in animal care was her destiny. David Huzzard learned a lot from his family pets and they trained him well to take care of and to respect their needs from an early age.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We help anyone that has pet care needs. This ranges from the busy professional that is stuck at work and then in traffic for too many hours and their dog or cat needs extra playtime in the middle of the day to public speakers that travel around the country giving talks and inspiring the next generation. We have also helped people recovering from injuries and surgeries who are unable to care for their pets during that time, and of course we help with people while they are out of town for the family vacation.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Not long ago we did overnight visits with three cats. One was going blind and got lonely in the middle of the night but the real reward was from the cat we were told was shy and that we'd never see. Before the visits were over the shy cat was sitting on my lap and acting like a typical friendly house cat.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
With the rise of on demand pet sitting services it is important to evaluate and make certain you are hiring a true professional and not just a person playing pet sitter or dog walker on a listing service site. Ask your potential pet sitter how many years they've been in business, how long they've been doing the job, if they are personally bonded and insured and licensed to do business, and make certain whoever you're leaving in charge of your pets is someone you can trust and understands the responsibilities of pet care.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Is this a person or company that you trust with the health and well being of your best fur friend?
