What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We can talk on the phone. If you want to proceed, we set up a no-cost meet-and-greet with you and your dog or cat and owners. It's a chance to ask questions and get to know one another. If it's a good fit, then we can make arrangements for the pet sitting or dog walking, including times, payment and instructions.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a lifelong dog owner. Through friends and family, I've been around cats all my life. I have been doing pet sitting and dog walking as a business for 3 years. I am insured through Pet Sitters Associates and I'm certified in pet CPR and first aid.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I'm a freelance writer who was spending too much time in front of the computer. I got totally frustrated with myself for signing up at a gym and not going. There had to be a better way! Since I love dogs and cats, this was a natural. My dog and cat clients get play time and exercise, and so do I!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with pet owners with a wide variety of needs and concerns. Some cats worry they have been abandoned and want cuddles. Some want to hide under the furniture. Many start off reserved and end up on my lap. I've worked with big dogs, including a Golden Retriever that was 65 pounds of puppy love and a reserved 85-pound Lab-Retriever-Shepherd mix who just wanted to sniff. I've walked Boxers, Pit Bulls, Corgi mixes, Bulldogs, Terriers and a Chihuahua. They've ranged in age from 10 weeks to 15 years. Some are outgoing, some are reserved, some are grumpy. One in particular is very anxious outside. Some are trained and others are ... mmmm ... more exuberant.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Find someone who loves dogs and cats. Check their reviews. Make sure they have insurance. Ask about their experience.
