Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I usually charge a $75 hourly fee with a 2hr minimum. The minimum helps offset transportation and other expenses.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I answer a request and invite the customer to contact me to iron out any questions. Then we decide on a convenient time for both of us and I always confirm our appointment the day before. I also call the client when I'm heading their way.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
When you have a career that spans from apprentice to foreman to project manager it teaches a person so much. Also, being a homeowner and family man taught me about the things it takes to repair and maintain a home and these are the majority of my requests.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
After 30+ years in construction, I semi-retired and started working with Thumbtack. It balances with a passion for the gym and golf! Seriously, I love working with people and having them satisfied with their decision to hire me. At this point over 20% of my work comes from previous customers.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with all types of clients from teenagers to retired folk. I have done work for real estate professional to large corporations, etc...

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I built a beautiful free standing trellis which gave me a chance to bring out the big tools and finish carpentry skills I don't use slot anymore. Working hard in the sun with my shirt off took me back to the good days of my past.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I think first and foremost that reading their reviews is critical. Ask yourself if they seem like you would trust. And remember, price isn't the only qualification.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Try to have a good picture in mind of what you want to accomplish but be open to suggestions that someone with more experience can offer.
