Introduction

Prior to branching out on my own, I spent four years working under a master electrician installing Tesla Powerwalls (Batteries), EV chargers, Outlets, New Circuits, and Solar Arrays. I owe everything to my mentors. I was taught to never cut corners, respect the customer’s wishes, and treat every install like a masterpiece. My primary areas of expertise are EV charger installs and dedicated circuit installs (hot tub installs, generator outlets, high wattage space heater outlets, etc.)

Flexible.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Figure out the exact scope of work, FaceTime customer to identify layout, give an estimate and go from there. I’ve been doing electrical work for 4 years but I acknowledge that I’m starting a new business on my own so I’ve been flexible on price/ methods of payment in the past.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

4 years of experience in the field plus studying and passing the NC limited electrical license on first try.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

Big fan of sustainability plus I like to work with my hands and be outside. Decided I’d try the solar industry after I graduated from UC Santa Barbara. Solar pushed me into electrical as I became more curious and here I am today.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Installed a designated circuit for a hot tub. Project took a day to complete. Drilled from main breaker panel to exterior of home, ran conduit down to code depth for UF cable, ran UF cable 40 ft through trench in backyard, used PVC conduit and 90 degree fittings to get around 6x6 post supporting porch instead of carflex, landed wires in GFCI outlet in weatherproof box, repaired charred hot tub plug (arc fault)… eureka it works.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask if they’re going to do a load calc. This is easy work for a verified licensed electrician. The consequences of not doing a load calc can be flickering lights, hot spots on the busbar in your breaker panel, or even tripping the main breaker.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What do I want? Where do I want it? What’s the distance from my main electrical panel to the location I want new equipment installed? If there are multiple things on my list of wants, which are my top priority? Am I okay with drywall being cut and replaced to accomplish this install? If yes, will I want the entirety of the walls and/ or ceiling painted after the drywall has been replaced?
