Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I’m not a fan of hidden fees so I don’t expect my customers to be ok with it either. Pricing is discussed up front and no work will continue till both parties are in full agreement.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to introduce myself and set up a date and time to check out your property and the scope of work. Typically most people are present for the appointment. If you can’t make it or prefer not to be there we offer contactless appointments as well. After reviewing the scope of work I give a quote for the job at hand. If everything is to your liking from there we set a date for the work to be completed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Besides the countless hours of YouTube, audiobooks and whatever else I can get my hands on I read a lot of articles research papers as well as go to seminars. I love the science end of landscaping and am always looking for new ways to improve. Once I took a course to become a real estate agent just to try and learn how to work with customers to help them sell their homes. Continued self education is the most important thing to this industry and is more than often the most overlooked.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started in high school doing any side job I could for money. I developed a love as the years went and can’t picture my life any other way.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
It’s easier to ask who I haven’t worked with. Early in my career I worked on giant estates in Litchfiled and Fairfield county. Some that have made it into magazines and tv shows. I have worked for designers, architects, and artists. I’ve worked with many real estate agents and contractors. Small residential homes are my favorite to improve

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A customer bought a house where the developer put in a bunch of plants that looked good at the store but were never meant to survive or do well where they were planted. I redesigned and installed the front garden with dwarf pines and dwarf fountain grasses for a boarder wrapping gently around the side of the house. I replaced the mulch with a permanent decorative stone to make this a very low maintenance style garden. I worked with the customer to find the type of decorative stone and plants. The best part of the job is to make the house you bought into your home.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure they’re actually a registered business with the state and not a fake business. An LLC in the name is usually a good sign.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What is the time line and expectations for what you want accomplished?
