Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Estimates and consultations are performed for free, ask about current offers and discounts, ask about in house financing or 90 days same as cash plans.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically our service starts with a meet & greet and free onsite inspection to ascertain the severity of the problem at hand. Once we’ve listened to your concerns and gotten a good feel for what you’ve been observing we then inspect the home both interior and exterior to identify any pest problems so that we can establish a treatment protocol that best serves your needs. Then we present you with a proposal for services recommended and often we are able to get you treated that same visit. We pride ourselves in NOT being a commissioned based company that sends out high pressured salespeople that don’t even do the work, rather we are certified technicians that will inspect, recommend and get the treatment going for you all in one visit!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My training started out back in 2005 where I attended Service Masters comprehensive pest technician training program with Terminix, this was my introduction to the pest control industry. Throughout the years I have attended many training seminars put on by Ensystex, Residex and several other big names in the industry including attending Pest World Conferences and an International Bed Bug Summit in New York City during the height of the bedbug reemergence. I attended registered technician school at the NC Department of Agriculture’s headquarters and passed required exams in both the structural pest and wood destroying phases to become a Certified Applicator. And of course continuing my required ongoing training to be compliant with the state of North Carolina. However nothing has been more satisfying than the years of real world, hands on experience that I possess and still yet I seem to learn something new every day.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was a lawn and landscaping contractor and a good friend of mine sold his pest control company to Terminix and as part of their deal he went to work for them. He knew that I had been thinking about adding pest control services to my company offerings and we were going into winter “my slow time” and he encouraged me to come work for Terminix part time as an inspector, so I did and quickly developed an interest in the pest control industry and love of entomology however working for a big company that treated both their customers and their employees as just a number was definitely not for me! So the following spring I implemented pest control into my business and it took off from there and then we transitioned into a full service pest control company a year or so later.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Over the years I have worked with customers that have special needs whether it be the elderly or disabled. As well I have experience working with customers and or their children that have allergies or certain chemical sensitivities. I service both residential and commercial properties and pride myself in working closely with my customers to establish a treatment protocol that best fits their specific needs, concerns and budget.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently we helped out several customers in a neighborhood where starlings have been infiltrating homes by nesting in bathroom vents, microwave ventilation fan vents and behind shutters attached to the front of the home. We had to take down microwaves in several kitchens to remove stick birds and nesting material, then disinfect and treat the duct work for bird mites. Every job poses a different challenge which makes pest control very interesting and exciting for our team!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
First of all an on-site inspection of your pest problems should be free, so don’t pay someone to come out and give you an estimate, even if they offer to put the cost towards your first invoice because at that point you almost feel pressured into going with that company. Secondly don’t choose a company based on price alone, in most cases you get what you pay for and all pest control companies and the products they use are not created equal. To really stand out in this industry and be the best you can be requires a high level of commitment to ongoing training, quality service, customer satisfaction and staying on top of industry trends. And lastly make sure anyone that comes out to inspect and talk with you truly listens to all of your concerns, identifies the pest and takes the time to explain the treatment procedure with you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What precautions aretake to ensure the safety of you, your family and pets? Are the products used safe? Do you provide a warranty for the services?
