Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Right now we are currently pricing Thumbtack customers at a discounted rate in hopes to boost our presence on the site.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We find out what pests they're dealing with, and send them a quote. Upon the technician's arrival he checks in with the customer and performs an inspection of the property. He treats the property accordingly and gives recommendations on how to best proceed going forward to keep the property pest free.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We believe the best way to learn pest control is being hands on. Though all our technicians are well studied and licensed, their best attribute is the years of experience doing the job correctly. The owners and service managers come from years of experience working with different companies in the industry before coming to Alta, bringing a more complete and diversified approach to how to get the job done.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My brothers and I got started in the industry back in high school, through a gentleman our older sister was dating at the time. After working in pest control throughout college, the brothers decided to start their own company upon graduation.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We've worked with all kinds of homeowners. Pests aren't picky, they can find their way anywhere.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A recent fun project was when we got the call to handle an in ground wasp nest. We went out there with a bee suit, and were able to dig up and exterminate the nest. We noticed that there were other wasps flying to a nearby tree. After some investigation we saw where they were going in and out of, and it turned out they had built a huge nest almost 3 feet long and 6 inches wide inside of a tree branch. The customer's surprise as we continued to pull off the bark to reveal the seemingly never ending nest was priceless.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
For the most part pests are like weeds; once the arrive, we can pull or spray them but they're likely to come back and require continual effort. Find someone who will offer a regular service and guarantee their work, meaning they will come back for free if things flare up in between services. We offer one time services as well, but for the most part these aren't nearly as effective and you end up spending your hard earned money to have the pests abated for a season, only to come back as soon as the treatments wear off.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How much it costs and what kind of guarantee they are getting. Are they using low impact products that won't harm the environment or their family. What's their availability - are they available at a day's notice to come and perform a retreatment if neccessary, or are they likely to be too busy and keep me waiting for several days.
