Introduction

Most owners focus just on the business end while their crew handles the actual jobs. As the founder, I've focused on the trade to continuously keep upgrading my skills and knowledge about both exclusion repair and trapping. This and my background in hospitality lets our business provide excellent customer focused service that allows the client to direct how far our services will extend. The constant puzzles. No two houses are the same and need to be thoroughly investigated and studied to find all the areas needing to be sealed to stop the flow of animals. From our experience, we can see and predict areas that are very commonly missed by others. Trapping is also a challenging trade that combines instinct and detailed observation. One has to understand animal behavior and biology for trapping in order to gain the highest probability of capture.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our prices are very straightforward, and the estimates are customized per the property and the clients' needs. We must inspect the house in order to be able to provide a quote because each house is a different situation. We do not charge by square foot like others might. We only charge for areas that are actually animal damaged and need work.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We take advantage of every opportunity to continue education in our field. We regularly attend seminars, conferences, and classes from government agencies, wildlife rehabilitators, colleagues, and anyone else who can further educate us on our trade.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I had a unique opportunity to train in this with a very good provider. Since the start, I've been dedicated to making this business work and grow, having the vision that we should treat our clients how we'd want someone to treat us if they are coming to our house to get something done. This career is genuinely a perfect blend of helping people and animals.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A client had contacted us after being very frustrated with other providers either trying to overcharge or not being able to complete the work. We were able to isolate the problem quickly and precisely so the job was not very expensive. We took over and quickly cleared the house. The client was extremely pleased with our service and left great reviews on every website she could. I was very pleased with our precision and teamwork, and that the client finally had a happy resolution after a year of trying to handle the problem.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Most people shop around, which is the whole premise of Thumbtack. But there is a lot more to animal removal than just the lowest price. You should look for a few things from the provider. First off, experience is vital. There are many people out there who just hopped into this field thinking it's easy. The reality is, there is an art to doing the construction repairs to permanently keep the animals out and have it blend in with the current aesthetics of the house. Also being knowledgeable about animal behavior and biology is ESSENTIAL. I have had to come behind so many handymen to fix the mistakes they made. They are proof that experience matters. So while you should expect a fair price, the cheapest is often not going to be the best for your money if you have to have the work done again. You should also find out if the company is willing to work with you by giving you options. You should only get exactly the services you want, rather than getting what the company wants to provide you. Beware of a salesman that tries to scare you into a $10k renovation. There are companies that prey on the public's fear of rodents, and you do not want to be their next victim. I think most importantly when hiring someone to work on your house is feeling that feeling you get when you genuinely like that person and feel they are trustworthy. Everyone knows someone that hired a bad contractor that took off or did a poor job. It happens too frequently and those crooks need to be avoided.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
My profession is a very specialized one that takes time to really understand and become proficient. The one trait I'd love for my clients to know is how relentless I am about getting the job done. I'm not letting these critters outsmart me.
