Introduction

Have you ever looked at your family and thought to yourself (hopefully quietly): "Goodness, our family is so dysfunctional!" "Why can't we just get along, and connect in a healthy and 'normal' way?" If you've asked yourself any of these questions, you've come to the right address. I'm happy to help your family work to become more "functional." In a direct yet gentle way, I ask my clients focused questions and offer them concrete tools to move forward. Clients come away from sessions feeling well understood and empowered.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I offer a variety of packages and discounts depending upon the needs of my clients. I recognize that therapy can be expensive, and I try to meet my clients' needs. I do not accept insurance.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically, clients will call for an initial 15 minute phone consultation. This allows me to get a sense of what they're struggling with and whether I can be of assistance. The first session lasts for 45 minutes. With marriage and family counseling, at times 45 minutes doesn't suffice and in future sessions we'll meet for either 75 or 90 minutes.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I received my masters in clinical community counseling at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. At that time, I completed my internship at a private day school. After moving to Atlanta, I began working in private practice at Trillium Springs in Marietta. Additionally, I offered counseling services at JF&CS in Dunwoody.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have always had an affinity for listening to others and "being real" with people. When starting college, I knew I wanted to pursue something in the field of psychology.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All types. The bulk of my experience is focused on marriage and relationship counseling. I also have a lot of experience working with children and their parents who feel like they're at wits end! Parenting can be tough- a few good tools can go a long way.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently helped a couple who were on the brink of divorce. Friends and family had encouraged them to go ahead with it and the paperwork was almost complete. I felt that in therapy, the two of them were able to "find their own voice." Deep down, they both really wanted to reconcile. The whole experience was very powerful.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Every therapist has their unique style. Your own personality and specific set of circumstances will mesh well with some therapists and just may not work with others. Be patient, trust your gut, and you'll find someone who fits your needs.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Clarify your goals, ask pointed questions, and you'll get a good sense of whether the therapist is a good match.
