Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
It's hard to compare apples to apples, but pretty much it all depends on the driving distance and project to be performed. A minimum charge of $150.00 is applied to any project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First of all, be on time. Everybody hates show later people. Greet and introduce ourselves with a smile. Listen carefully to what the customer really wants and needs. Ask to offer different suggestions or ideas to customer. Give ourselves a time window of (1 hour) for to be show up for an appointment.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I was a maintenance supervisor for an apartment complex of 385 units for about 3 years. I was in charge of 2 employees. We did from A to Z jobs in this complex. Fixing water damaged units, cleaning, changing sinks, toilet, pipes, cabinets, windows, painting, garbage disposals, carpet cleaning, electrical outlets, GFIC outlets, ceiling fans, Bathrooms fans, drywall replacement, you name it. After all that, I worked in the construction business for about one year, until my wife and I started AJC Building Maintenance which specializes in the cleaning and maintenance servces. This fitted so well in our lives because most of the work is done over nights and weekends. Also, as I mentioned before, I went to school for this and earned my master certification for this.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Like I said before, with all the experience I gained being a maintenance supervisor, I tough it was a good idea to start to work for myself. With the help of my wife, and after long nights work in the cleaning industry and working in the construction business for one more year. AJC building Maintenance was born. Today my wife is in charge of the cleaning services and I am in charge of maintenance and handyman services. I also went to school for Stone restoration in Florida and earned my master degree in granite and marble Stone restoration. I also got certified by the state of california and IICRC. It's a lot of work but we are very happy with it...

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Retail Offices, Medical Offices, Industrial Buildings, Government Offices (Housing Authority of Ventura County), Commercial Buildings, Private Residences.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A couple of months ago we had to rehab an entire 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms apartment completely. A hoarder was living in there for about 10 years, so you can imagine how it was! It was so bad that the tenant painted over all the kitchen cabinets with exterior paint mixed with sand. Every single cabinet was stripped off and peeled by hand. Nothing else worked because of the sand. Please see the BEFORE and AFTER pictures in my profile.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Please be very specific on what you really need, provide a phone number so we can keep in touch and discuss details of project. Remember: "you get what you pay for". Cheap does not necessarily mean is better. At the end of the day, it will get more expensive because you may have to pay somebody else to do it again, or at least you will waste your valuable time and money. Also, very important. PLEASE make sure that the person you are hiring for the job is a Licensed contractor with a valid license number, certified by IICRC, bonded and insured. Remember: it’s against the law to engage in business with an Unlicensed contractor in California.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Can I have the professional taking care of more little projects instead of just one? This will be cheaper specially if you're charged by the hour. Does it make any sense for the professional to drive 45 mins one way to only work 2 hours? Does the professional that I am thinking about hiring lives near by? Does he have liability or workers comp insurance in place if something happens? Is he a California licensed contractor? Does he have the real training to perform a project like mine?
