What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

t The Floor Store, we believe great flooring should come with honest pricing and exceptional value. As the Bay Area’s largest flooring retailer, we leverage our industry relationships and buying power to offer competitive pricing on the highest quality flooring products — without sacrificing service or expertise. We offer frequent in-store promotions, seasonal discounts, and special financing options to help make your flooring project more affordable. Plus, because we stock so much product locally, we’re often able to pass additional savings along to our customers — especially on in-stock specials. Our pricing is always transparent. No hidden fees. No surprises. And our experienced team will work with you to find flooring solutions that fit your style and your budget.

At The Floor Store, we make the flooring process easy, enjoyable, and stress-free — from inspiration to installation. Every project starts with a conversation. Whether you visit one of our nine Bay Area showroom locations or contact us online, our experienced Design Consultants take the time to understand your style, your space, and your needs. We’ll guide you through our extensive selection of flooring — including hardwood, luxury vinyl, carpet, tile, and more — helping you compare options, explore samples, and find the perfect fit for your home and lifestyle. Once you’ve found your dream floor, we’ll provide a free estimate and, if needed, schedule an in-home measurement to ensure accuracy. From there, our professional installation team takes care of everything — from prep to clean-up — with expert craftsmanship and attention to detail. We also offer custom area rug fabrication, design tools like room visualizers, and a project checklist to help you prepare every step of the way.

Flooring isn’t just our business — it’s our family legacy. The Floor Store was founded in 1986 by Larry Flick, a third-generation flooring expert who grew up in Dalton, Georgia — famously known as the “Carpet Capital of the World.” With over 39 years serving Bay Area homeowners, The Floor Store has built a reputation for expertise that you simply won’t find at big box stores. Our team of Design Consultants and professional installers undergo continuous training on the latest flooring products, trends, and installation techniques to ensure every customer receives knowledgeable guidance and expert service. We are proud to be Diamond Certified since 2008 — a recognition awarded only after independent customer surveys verify exceptional quality and service year after year. From understanding the craftsmanship behind hardwood to knowing the best waterproof flooring for busy homes, our team brings decades of real-world flooring experience to every project. When you work with The Floor Store, you’re working with true flooring specialists dedicated to getting it right.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
For us, flooring isn’t just a business — it’s in our blood. The Floor Store was founded in 1986 by Larry Flick, whose passion for flooring started long before opening our first showroom in Richmond, CA. Larry grew up in Dalton, Georgia — widely known as the "Carpet Capital of the World." His father, Robert Flick, was a respected industry veteran who spent over 50 years in the flooring business. Larry worked alongside him, learning firsthand about quality materials, product sourcing, and the value of doing right by your customers. After moving to the Bay Area, Larry saw an opportunity to bring that same level of expertise and personalized service to local homeowners — something that was missing from traditional retail flooring stores. He opened The Floor Store with a simple idea: stock the best products, offer honest pricing, and treat every customer like family. Nearly 40 years later, that approach hasn’t changed. Today, The Floor Store is still family owned and operated, with 9 Bay Area locations and a reputation for expertise, quality, and exceptional customer care. Helping people transform their homes and seeing the finished result — that’s what drives us every day.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Over the past 39 years, we’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of Bay Area homeowners, businesses, and design professionals — each with their own unique vision and needs. Most often, we work with residential homeowners looking to transform their living spaces — whether they’re updating a single room, remodeling their entire home, or preparing a property for sale. From first-time homebuyers to growing families to retirees creating their forever home, we love helping customers find flooring that fits their lifestyle, design goals, and budget. We also proudly work with real estate agents, interior designers, contractors, and property managers who trust The Floor Store for expert advice, high-quality products, and reliable installation. Our projects range from cozy carpet upgrades in family rooms to luxury hardwood installations in high-end estates — and everything in between. No project is too big or too small. What all of our customers have in common is the desire to work with knowledgeable professionals who care about getting it right. At The Floor Store, every customer receives the same level of care, expertise, and attention to detail — because flooring isn’t just what we do, it’s who we are.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One recent project we’re especially proud of was a full-home flooring transformation for a family in Walnut Creek. They came to us wanting to update their 1980s home with something fresh, warm, and durable enough to handle kids, pets, and lots of entertaining. After visiting our Concord showroom, our design consultant worked closely with them to select a beautiful European white oak hardwood for the main living areas, a cozy patterned carpet for the bedrooms, and waterproof luxury vinyl for their kitchen and laundry areas — blending style and practicality throughout the home. From product selection to final installation, the project took about 3 weeks. This included in-home measurements, product delivery, removing old flooring, prepping the subfloor, and expert installation by our professional team. The final result completely transformed their space — adding warmth, elegance, and functionality. The homeowners were thrilled, especially knowing they had a timeless look with durable materials built for their busy lifestyle. Projects like this remind us why we love what we do — helping Bay Area families turn their house into a home, with flooring that looks beautiful and lasts for years to come.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
When it comes to flooring, the product you choose matters — but the company you choose matters even more. Our best advice? Look for a flooring provider that offers both expertise and accountability. Flooring is a long-term investment in your home, and working with an experienced, reputable company ensures you’ll get the right product, the right installation, and support long after the job is done. Ask questions like: Do they have a wide selection and in-stock products? Are their installers certified and experienced? Do they stand behind their work with warranties or satisfaction guarantees? Can they help with design advice and product education, not just sales? Be cautious of companies that offer pricing that seems too good to be true — that often comes with hidden costs or lower-quality materials. And most importantly, choose a provider with a proven track record in your community.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Here’s what we recommend considering: What’s the purpose of the space? Is it a high-traffic area, a cozy bedroom, or a room where spills are common? Different rooms have different needs. What’s your lifestyle like? Do you have kids, pets, or entertain often? Durable, easy-to-clean flooring might be a priority. What look or style are you going for? Are you drawn to the natural beauty of hardwood, the cozy feel of carpet, or the practicality of luxury vinyl? What’s your budget? Having a rough idea of your budget helps guide product recommendations and options. Are you working within a timeline? Is this part of a larger remodel or are you trying to meet a specific deadline, like moving in or selling your home? Do you want to handle prep work yourself or leave it to the pros? Things like furniture removal, old flooring removal, or subfloor preparation can all factor into your project plan.
