Every project starts with a quick consultation to understand your vision, goals, and timeline. From there, we handle everything — from 3D design and permitting to sourcing materials and full construction.
We provide a detailed proposal with clear pricing, timelines, and scope — no surprises, no handoffs. Once approved, we manage the entire build with one dedicated team, keeping you informed at every step.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
Grasshopper Builders was built from the ground up with one goal — to create outdoor spaces that are just as custom and high-quality as what you’d expect inside the home.
What started as custom carpentry and backyard builds quickly evolved into full-service landscape design and outdoor construction. After seeing how fragmented and unreliable most outdoor contractors were, we decided to offer a better, start-to-finish process — handled by one expert team.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
One of our favorite recent projects was a full outdoor living space we completed in Los Altos. The client wanted a high-end backyard with a custom outdoor kitchen, synthetic turf, a modern pergola with lighting, and a large paver patio for entertaining.
The entire project took just over 7 weeks from first excavation to final walkthrough, including all permitting, design, and build.
What made it special was how cohesive the final space felt — we were able to match the outdoor flow to the home’s architecture, and the client told us it was the first time they actually used their backyard for hosting.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure the contractor you hire can manage the full scope — from design and permitting to materials and construction. The biggest issue we see is homeowners juggling multiple subcontractors who aren’t aligned, which leads to delays, budget issues, and finger-pointing.
Look for someone who offers clear timelines, all-in pricing, and a single point of contact. Outdoor projects involve drainage, grading, structure, and finish — so experience and coordination matter just as much as design.
Ask to see similar past projects, and make sure their process feels structured, not reactive.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
The most helpful thing is to know what you want your space to do for you — entertaining, relaxing, cooking, playing, etc. From there, think about your must-haves (like an outdoor kitchen, turf area, or fire feature), and what level of finish you’re aiming for.
It's also important to consider your desired start timeframe, any HOA or permit constraints, and whether you prefer a fully managed process or plan to be hands-on.
