Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I'm a friendly, kind and meticulous individual who loves my work. I take great pride in all my jobs large and small.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I went to school at Chicopee Comp. Worked as a chemical engineer for 15 years at textile mill in the same town until the company moved overseas. I was very fortunate to meet a master tile setter who took me under his wing. I worked with him for about 10 years. Then I moved to the city and got a job with a high volume commercial flooring company. There I continued my training in all types of flooring products and applications. Now I am a project supervisor, overseeing large commercial jobs in hospitals and schools.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started over 20 years ago as an apprentice for a very particular master tile setter. He's the one that installed my level of detail and my approach to customer needs. I moved into the city and hooked up with a very busy commercial flooring company and I've been with them for over 15 years.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
In the many years I've been doing floors I have worked for many different kinds of people.I have learned that you give a customer your very best and you listen to what their needs are, you will accommodate any type of customer.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I had the pleasure to meet a professor who teaches at Yale and UMass. He hired me to work on a very unique floor design with tile from Spain. These tiles came in 5 very different patterns all black and white 8 inch stock. His kitchen was lined with cabinets of cherry wood that where absolutely beautiful. I was thinking about the layout while doing the sub-floor. He wanted the pattern to be random, I was able to come up with grouping the same tile together to make it appear as one larger tile. Then I took one of the designs that he had more of, places them every third tile. This created a secondary diagonal pattern that surprised both of us! Check out the pictures in my profile, I'm sure you're gonna find what I'm talking about. He has hired me to do his backsplash and his office. It is a pleasure working for him and his family.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The biggest problem I run into are people who are just window shopping. I will give you an honest price, and my goal is to meet your needs, meaning K can accommodate on the fly changes. It what you want in the end not what's easiest.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
When I'm contacted, I will be looking next to see your project and write you an accurate estimate. So ask yourself am I ready to move forward. For ceramic customers you should have an idea of the tile you want installed and how you want it installed.
