What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I’m typically the estimate “right in the middle”.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to hear what they have to say about their flooring project i.e., what products they are interested in, what rooms they want done, what type of budget they are working with, etc. Then I find out when I can come and do a free estimate. At the estimate I give them a cost of labor figure and either bring some samples or tell them where they can look at the particular product they are interested in.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

15 years hands on experience; at least 2,000 qualified flooring installations (so many I lost track); thousands of estimates

How did you get started doing this type of work?

Began business with my brother-in-law when we were both in between jobs 15 years ago and now I consider myself to be a flooring expert installing on average 200 jobs per year and working for Home Depot, Lowes, and Lumber Liquidators over the past 5 years

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have been all over the tri-county area to every type of neighborhood and installed floors for all types of people - we have done everything from million dollar homes to single-wide trailers. I'm not an old man yet (this may sound like I am) but there isn't much I haven't seen when it comes to flooring and customers.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

We did the hardwood flooring for a Parade of Homes winner. The project was 5" Tigerwood and it looked amazing especially after the interior designer put the finishing touches on the house.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Check the reviews and ratings and make sure you are dealing with a well established company and not a handy-man "fly by night" operation that either 1. does not do flooring all the time 2. will take your money and run 3. will not stand behind a labor warranty

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

If they can afford it. Even the most basic installation after considering materials and labor is going to run at least $1,000.
