Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
$75/hr is my hourly rate plus materials. $125 minimum. I will not rush through a task but also use my experience and work ethic to get things done as quick as I can. I'm looking to build a business of repeat customers and referrals not drag a job on to make more money.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I introduce myself with a business card and explain I am fully insured and bonded so there is no worry on their end. Then I like to ask as many questions as needed to get the whole picture on the task at hand before completing as efficiently as possible. Most importantly treat every customer's home and money with the same respect I'd expect someone to treat my own mothers.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
20+ years of on-the-job training in both residential and commercial construction. From installing walk in tubs for American standard for 3 years to full residential remodels to managing multi-million-dollar buildouts of healthcare clinics. CICTI certified training in infection control. IIRC training in applied structural drying and water restoration technician.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Did not go to college, wanted to get my hands dirty and learn a trade as soon as graduated high school. Started with general labor for a remodeling company and led me to being the senior director of operations for a 15 million dollar a year company with more life lessons in between I could count. This past year I decided it was time to start my own company to better provide for my family and am very happy with my decision. Starting a business is definitely as hard as I expected but I know with my knowledge/experience and doing the right thing success will come.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Over the 20+ years in this business I think it would be fair to say every type imaginable. One of the things I like most about this line of work, always a different scenario.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recent project that stands out was helping move in a couple who did not speak English. They needed some TVs mounted, pictures and art mounted. Super easy job but the language barrier was to be an obstacle for sure. Studied up my Spanish the night before and it went very smooth. I could tell they were very hesitant when I arrived but once they saw my attempt to speak the language they spoke they turned around. I know it meant a lot to them and they were super great full which made it all worth the extra time.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Trust your gut and ask lots of questions.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I think any question when it comes to your home and hard-earned money is a good question. I've never felt someone asked too many questions and absolutely respect that someone inviting a stranger into their home can be worrisome, you need to trust the person who you will be hiring and also trust their skill and expertise.
