Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Our job is to listen to your needs and figure out if we can meet them within your timeframe, budget, and expectation levels. We conduct a site visit to inspect the work scope and then provide a google doc within google drive that includes any pictures and videos we may have of the project as well as a detailed scope estimate report.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Project Management Certification, UW Tacoma. Mold Removal Certification, Environmental Management Training, Tacoma. 17 years of industry experience.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started framing houses pretty much right out of high school. Then worked for a general contractor for about 4 years and learned just about everything that goes into building a house and light commercial buildings. From there I began doing my own solo projects and started business officially in 2011. With my focus on the structural and foundation repair aspect, I take a holistic approach to each project. My philosophy is definitely a cause and effect method, I’d rather recommend a scope of work that is practical vs. a juiced up scope that serves only one party.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Every type from A-Z.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
My advice would be to utilize the “look up a contractor tool” on Washington State Labor and Industries website. This will show you if a contractor is current on their licensing, bond, and insurance requirements. It will also provide you information on any previous law suits or issues with paying their required injured workers comp. Look at how many employees they claim they have, if they told you they have a huge crew but only claim one employee...they are likely paying cash under the table to their employees (which if they are injured on your job, you will be held responsible to pay for injuries). Or they are sub contracting out the work, which can lead to lower quality and control.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
One of the most important aspects is knowing what your budget is and being comfortable with communicating that budget. The reality of it is that it saves everyone A LOT of time and posturing when you are able to cut the fluff and make realistic scope decisions due to financial limitations.
