Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Pricing varies between garden care and design projects, but relates to your overall job size and desired scope of work. Please note that build estimates are $120, which is only billed to you in the event you choose NOT to move forward with the work. Starting at $1500, custom design packages are available to meet the diverse needs of our customers.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
For new garden care customers, the typical process includes: 1) An initial site walkthrough where the customer can outline the desired work to be done. 2) Customers receive a cost estimate and contract for the agreed upon scope of maintenance. 3) We will schedule a good time to get started. For new design customers, there are a range of options available, however the typical process includes: 1) An initial site walkthrough where the customer outlines the desired work to be done. 2) Customers receive a cost estimate and contract for the agreed upon scope of design. 3) I will take site measurements (some larger projects may require a property survey) and photos for reference throughout the design process. 3) We will review 2 initial hand drawn concepts and collaborate together on the final concept. 4) Review a refined, to scale, CAD plan based on the agreed upon concept. Here we will get into the nitty gritty details of your desired landscape materials (stone, boulders, wood, metal, etc.) and talk about plants (trees, shrubs, perennials, fruit and veggies, ground cover and/or grasses). 5) The final product includes at minimum an illustrated landscape plan that can be used as a road map to creating your dream yard. It is meant to be fully comprehensive for either the homeowner or a landscape contractor to build out. Both digital and a print copy will be provided. Other design options can include: - Layout plans explaining in further detail the locations of specific materials, structures or features, hardscape, and softscape, with their respective square footages. - Planting plans calling out specific plant species/cultivars and their placement - Sprinkler zone diagram calling out the locations of overhead and drip irrigation Additional follow up can include: - Construction oversight for customers working with a landscape contractor for installation - Direct consultation, guidance, and tips for the DIY homeowner - Maintenance

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My professional expertise is a result of a well rounded industry background in groundskeeping, gardening, landscape installation, and design. I've worked in both the non-profit and private worlds, (for a university, small residential landscaping companies, and design firms) intimately learning the craft of landscape. Degrees: - Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA) - University of Colorado Denver - BA in Environmental Studies - Naropa University Certifications: - Colorado Master Gardener, CSU Extension (2009) - Designing Early Childhood Outdoor Environments Certificate, Natural Learning Initiative, North Carolina State University (2017) - Permaculture Design Certificate, Permaculture Institute (2010)

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I've always had an affinity for the outdoors. Growing up with an arborist Father, I was taught to identify trees and plants from a very young age. I was very fortunate and privileged to have a large yard and neighborhood I could romp around throughout childhood. It's a natural evolution that I continued into this field. As I help others connect with their outdoor spaces, I too seek to deepen my own connection with the natural world.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with private homeowners, elementary schools, child care centers, community centers, parks departments, and facilities personnel throughout the Colorado Front Range.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Shop around and ask questions! Not all landscape professionals work the same way, and finding the right fit for your project may take time. You should feel confident and excited about who you work with.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What are the elements in your landscape that work for you, and those that don't? What do you like best about the space? Are there any challenge areas (for example, drainage issues, areas that are too hot, sight lines you'd like to open up or obscure, etc.)? Start gathering photos and precedents that inspire you. Pinterest or Google are great sources for images that you can share and we can refer to throughout the design process.
