Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We turn quotes around within a week and our pricing includes a complimentary design and interior architectural services by interior designer Hilary White, co-owner of Jay Hill Construction.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Initial processes include meeting with the clients to determine the scope of work, help make selections of all materials, establish new floorpans if needed, and work through all of the details before construction begins to ensure an efficient project flow once construction begins. Hilary White is your main point of contact is she is very communicative and attentive to all of our clients.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
DJ Price is a licensed General Contractor who has been working in commercial and residential construction for the past 18 years after earning his degree in Construction Management at East Carolina University. Hilary White also has a degree from ECU, but in interior design and has been working on projects all over the country for the past 20 years.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Both DJ Price, and Hilary White's fathers were in the construction industry so it's been a family business and a passion for both of them for as long as they can remember.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with customers all over Charleston, as well as clients around the country. We generally do larger bathroom remodels or multiple bathrooms in a home and focus on high-end luxury interiors. Our quality and customer service sets us apart and we have had many clients coming back to us for future projects. Some clients we have worked with for 15+ years now!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently did a full home renovation of a 3,500 sf home on James Island and it took around 4 months once construction started. Planning and permits took about 6 weeks. We loved our client's openness to add interesting accents like wood beams in the ceiling and wallpaper throughout the house.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Having worked as an interior designer with other general contractors, Hilary's pet peeve is poor communication skills. If a contractor isn't answering the phone and returning texts, it won't get better once the project starts. Hilary and DJ both are extremely punctual and always answer their phones and reply to texts in a timely manner. Professionalism is underrated in this industry, and we see it as a priority.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Customers should consider many questions including the following: 1. What is my budget? Does this align with the design aesthetic I am trying to create for my home? 2. What is my timeline? Where will I stay when my home is under construction? 3. What is the scope of the project? If renovating an entire home, will I be replacing all of the windows, doors, trim? Will I want to update all of the electrical including the switch plates and outlets? Do I want to add decorative sconces and other lighting rather than just overhead lighting? Should I take out walls or vault ceilings to open the floorpan up? Do I want decorative wood details like ship lap or stained wood tongue and groove ceiling details? All of these details help us to give you the most accurate quote we can and ensure you are getting everything you'd like out of the renovation project.
