Be very clear and precise about installation techniques, materials and what is covered by you and by the contractor. Make sure the contractor gives you a list of what you are responsible for and what they are responsible for. Not having a list will not let you see the true cost of the project. Houston does not require a license to be a general contractor so anyone can sell you the job, so stay vigilant. Please do your due diligence. If we are too busy to help you on your project, we can definitely provide a free consultation without asking for anything in return. We will tell you what you need to know in order to find a good contractor that corresponds to your type of project.

Ask them to write a clause in the contract that allows you to fire them if they provide unsatisfactory workmanship. Ask them to break up the payments. Ask them if they will stay within budget. Ask them if they foresee any change orders. Ask them to outline common unforeseens with your type of project. Ask them for a timeline. If they are too busy they might start the project in order to collect money and then make you wait until they finish other projects. Ask them for a 3d drawing. If they cant provide one then they may not be as professional as they said. Don't ask for pictures since they don't show proper detail or the pictures may not be their own. Don't ask for references because you only get the good references.
