Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When working with a new customer, I start by carefully listening to their ideas, preferences, and overall vision for the project. I focus on understanding their needs and goals, ensuring that we align from the start. From there, I collaborate with them to design a plan that brings their dream project to life, balancing aesthetics, functionality, and budget. Throughout the process, I maintain open communication to ensure we stay on track and the final result is something they’re proud of.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
With over thirty years of experience in residential construction, my training includes three Master’s degrees through the IICRC. Additionally, I’m a licensed Asbestos Supervisor and Lead certified, which has equipped me with a deep understanding of safety and compliance in the industry.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began my journey in this industry as a helper, gradually advancing to a Carpenter, building decks and trimming houses. From there, I transitioned into framing and eventually took on the role of superintendent, managing multiple subdivisions and custom homes. Throughout my career, I’ve gained hands-on experience in every phase of construction, from working on an empty lot during the design phase to delivering the final product.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I’ve worked with a wide range of customers over the years, from pleasant to more challenging. Some customers come with a clear vision, are open to collaboration, and communicate effectively, making the process smooth and rewarding. Others may be more difficult, whether due to indecision, changing demands, or unrealistic expectations. In either case, I approach every project with patience, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results, ensuring that even the toughest situations are handled with care and respect.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
My advice to anyone looking to hire a provider in this industry is to be cautious of scams and inexperienced individuals. Always verify the contractor’s credentials, such as licenses, certifications, and years of experience. Don’t be swayed by the lowest price—often, it’s an indicator of cutting corners or lack of experience. Take the time to ask detailed questions about their process, timelines, and guarantees to make sure you’re hiring someone reputable and qualified.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Before talking to a professional about their project, customers should think carefully about their budget and what they want to achieve. It's important to have a realistic understanding of how much they’re willing to spend and to prioritize their must-haves versus nice-to-haves. They should also consider their timeline, the scope of the project, and any specific design or functional needs. By being clear on these points upfront, they can have more productive discussions with professionals about what can realistically be done within their budget and time frame, ensuring the project aligns with their expectations.
