Introduction

I've always been passionate about Interior Design. That is why I have been involved in some aspect of it for most of my adult life, through my education and work experience. Simple changes to a space can make such a difference. A new area rug, coat of paint, and new window treatments can do wonders for a room.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge a design fee of $120.00 per hour for consultations. I will also work out package pricing with the client depending on what the client is interested in having done.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Firstly, I like to have a brief phone conversation with the potential client and find out what they are looking to accomplish with their project. And to see if we have a good rapport. If the client would like to hire me, I set up an in-home or virtual consultation as soon as the client would like to.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from West Virginia University, am a member of ASID, and am NCIDQ Certified. I am also a Graber window treatments dealer.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
After I graduated from college, I worked at a furniture store, a home improvement store, and then at a Model Home Design Firm as a draftsperson. My next design experience was being a Federal Contractor doing design work and specifying systems furniture for various government agencies.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with both residential and commercial clients.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I am fond of the redesign of my family's living room. It happened in steps over a few months, but it came together really nicely in the end. First, we chose the new paint color, then the new window treatments, then we purchased a new recliner, and lastly a new area rug.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Find someone that you get along well with and who understands your vision for your room(s).

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
A realistic budget is the main thing to decide early on before the project is started. How much are you planning to spend on an interior designer, furniture, accessories, etc.? Time frame is another thing to consider. When would you like to have the project finished?
