Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge anywhere from $15-$20 an hour. It all depends on where the client lives, how big the job is and if they provide cleaning products and tools. I am always up to negotiating!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I meet with my clients in the place they need cleaned to go over what they want and expect done. I give them an idea of how long it will take and how much I normally charge. My rates are based on how big the job is, how far away it is from my home and if the client will be providing any or all cleaning products and tools.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've been cleaning since I was a kid. My mother taught me and I have picked up things along the way; ways to cut corners or clean up something stubborn. Let's face it; it's not rocket science but I love to clean!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
As I said before I love to clean. So I figured why not make money at it? Then in 2000 I was asked to clean and care for my sick father in law and the state would pay me. That job went on for about 5 or so years. Then two more disabled family members needed my services. Then while caring for them I landed a full time home health/cleaning job for an elderly woman. I was quite busy and making great money so I figured I should keep doing it even after these clients no longer needed me. I loved what I was doing so why not continue with others?

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked for both young and old, healthy and disabled or sick. I have done jobs for clients that were very clean to clients that were hoarders. So I have seen it all and I loved helping them all. To see a really big job done is very rewarding!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
About 3 months ago I had a friend of a friend contact me to come do a final cleaning on her house as she was moving out of state and putting her house up for sale. The home was empty and she needed me to wash walls, dust, vacuum, clean all the bathrooms and thoroughly clean both kitchens(yes I said 2 kitchens!). She was thrilled with my work and paid me extra. She sang my praises to many people far and wide; especially on social media. It was suppose to be a one time job BUT she needed me to come in and fix a painting issue in a few rooms. Then she needed me to come in again a few more times to freshen up before open house showings. She has been very generous and helpful. I have made friends wit this person and I love it. My clients are important to me and not just because they are my bread and butter but because I love to make people happy. I love to make a friend whenever I can!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure they are trustworthy, have experience and are willing to negotiate their rates. Make sure they have references; don't be afraid to check them out!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
They should think about what it is they need/want done and look for someone that is available and willing to do the job quickly and correctly. They should ask themselves if they are comfortable with the person being there to do the project with or without themselves being home. Trust is key. And clients need to remember sometimes you temporarily have to make a mess to clean a mess!
