Introduction

“Ms. Roth’s paintings are a cross between Georgia O’Keeffe and Odilon Redon” Don Lombardi, New York Times People who are looking for an artist to interpret their ideas should call me because I love the fine art of collaboration. I have collaborated with artists for many years as the Master Printer at the prestigious Etching Atelier, Hudson River Editions. I have the finely crafted skill of putting your ideas into a painting, drawing or book cover. If you want a hand painted reproduction of your favorite painting, or a copy of an Impressionist Masterpiece or a Renaissance Madonna or a portrait of your dog, just call me. My prices are reasonable and I always meet my deadlines. In addition, my small prints and jewelry, cast from my Etching plates, are sold in the Mezzanine Print Gallery of the Metropolitan Museum.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I price using the pricing guidelines outlined in Thumbtack’s information. Somewhere between $200 and $450 an image. Sometimes I charge less and sometimes more. The price depends on the size and complexity of the image. I work closely with my clients and try to keep within my client’s budget.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When working with a new client, I take the time to get to know her or him. I tell the client if I think I can do the job or not. To get started we work out a price and a payment plan. I do not get paid until we both agree on the designed image. Every client is different and I try to work within that client’s budget. I aim to please my client and not myself.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I was graduated from The High School of Music and Art in NYC and studied painting with the renowned artist, Phillip Guston at NYU and where I earned my BA. I had additional study at Pratt Graphic Workshop and The Arts Students League of New York. My paintings and prints are in many private and corporate collections and my jewelry and prints are exhibited in the Mezzanine Print Gallery at the Metropolitan Museum. My illustration work is informed by my fine art painting training.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I knew from the time I was about 7 years old that I wanted to be an artist.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Most often I paint copies of my client’s favorite masterpieces. Sometimes I paint their favorite memories from photographs they show me. Sometimes I show them my paintings and they buy those already finished paintings. I have also designed Judaica, Bar Mitzvah invitations and book jackets. I am also interior designer friendly and will make paintings to match the colors in the room. I gave a talk called “Making a living as an Artist, somebody’s got to do it”

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I made a copy of a complex abstract painting and I added a few of my own touches and the client was so happy she kissed me and cried with joy. That made me feel good.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would make sure that the artist you hire can take criticism and will try to please you and not himself or herself.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I want my customers to know that I take every job very seriously and I will work very hard to give my clients what they want. I have been painting since I was in the High School of Music and Art in NYC and studied with Phillip Guston and many other fine artists at NYU and The Arts Students League and Pratt Graphic workshop.
