Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For most projects, I charge per word rather than an hourly rate. This is beneficial to both of us: you know going in what you'll pay, and I will be able to focus on the written word rather than "beating" the clock! For smaller projects, those less than 2500 words, I generally charge a flat rate. If anything comes up that would increase the cost of the project, I will contact you before proceeding.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to discuss the project with the client so we are both clear on the expectations. It's priority to me that my clients receive the service for which they hire me, therefore, I try to ask the questions that make the job and expectations clear for everyone involved. Once hired, clients have my email and phone number, so they can text or call with any questions during the project.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of North Texas, and I have completed the Poynter Aces Certificate in Editing. Outside of freelancing, I am also a certified English teacher in the state of Texas.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have always had a love for literature and writing. I can spot a typo from a mile away, and have a strong knowledge of grammar and writing conventions. Being able to help others produce high-quality literature is a task that I truly enjoy.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I help high school students hone their writing skills skills on a daily basis. I also work with college students and established authors seeking proofreading and editing help for papers, essays, and novels. My projects have ranged from technical articles to journals to novels to academic papers. Writing and helping others with their writing is my passion.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I have worked on romance novels, memoirs, science fiction, and self-help books. Recently, I've completed work on two projects, one that will soon be published to a popular website and other that was published in a scientific journal.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I think it's a good idea to be clear on what you expect. People have different expectations with even the most simple things. For example, I've worked with clients who have said, "If there is an simple inconsistency, just change it." Whereas others have wanted to make all the changes themselves; they just want to see my notes. Being clear about your expectations upfront saves everyone a lot of time and headaches, and leaves the client most satisfied at the end of the project.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How long does a project like mine normally take? What process do you use, or what software do you use? What is the best way to communicate with you?
