Introduction

I teach visual art. My students get personalized attention and learn the style of art they want to learn at the pace they can enjoy. Students get a foundation course on the elements of design, composition, color mixing and applied techniques. I am flexible and knowledgeable with many mediums and styles of art and my teaching style is positive and gentle. (Sorry, I don't teach cartooning or anima) Demonstrations are part of every session but I never paint on the students work without permission so I show them on a separate piece of paper. I guide them to find their own style. Mostly, I encourage a student to completely engage in the creative/ learning process. I love seeing the expression on my student's faces when they accomplish something they didn't think they could do.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My fees are in the "average" range for personal lessons. It may vary according to the distance I have to travel. I will reduce the total fee if more than 1 student attends at the same time.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Working with a new student is fun. We get to find out about each other at the same time. I am a very friendly and soft-spoken person so I am easy to get along with. I like to determine what a student already knows, how much training they have and what kind of art they want to produce in the future. My goal is to give them the training they need to produce art on their own in their own creative style.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I attended the Rhode Island School of Design, Western Connecticut State College, Eastern Connecticut State College as well as individual classes at several schools. I have worked professionally as an Art Director, Graphic Designer, Creative Print Designer, Interior Designer, Lighting Specialist, Art Teacher and Photographer.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
When I was a young adult, I tried to find high quality, affordable art instruction. Most of the instructors I found did not really "teach" but let students just play around. I wanted to teach people what good composition meant, what the elements of design were and how they worked in a piece of art. I wanted to help people learn the language of color and abstraction. Of course, the most important thing is that students are actively involved and immersed in the creative process. i.e. "having fun" This is still the goal and when I see students really into what they are doing, I glad I could be part of that.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I prefer to work with adults and young people over 10 yrs old. I have worked with all kinds of people.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Hire me! You won't be disappointed.
