Introduction

My clients praise me for being able to get their work done quickly and correctly. And in the case where a mistake is made, I am prompt to work with the client to get it corrected as soon as possible. I love the creative process of designing new products or creating mockups. Designing and prototyping requires a background and knowledge in manufacturing. I spent 10 years working for Fortune 500 companies as a design engineer, so I can leverage my experiences to design products that are functional and optimized for price.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I typically bill by the hour but there have been times I have done a project for a fixed price.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
My normal process is to have a Skype or web conference with the client to understand the requirements. Then I will get to the design work, and when I feel that I have a good first draft I will set up a second meeting. This process may go through a few loops before completion. I guarantee my work and will work till it is done correctly.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and 10 years of work experience in product design, project engineering, and 3D modeling.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I worked as an employee in the engineering department of both Bosch Home Appliances and United Pet Group. I decided that I would be happier working for myself so I decided to take that route. So far it has been a great decision.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have done most of my work for individuals but I have also done work for a few companies who either didn't have an engineering department or were overloaded.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently did a project for Trent (see my reviews). He had a product that was already designed but it needed some changes. The product was a small injection molded part. At first it seemed fairly straightforward, but it turned out to be more challenging than we both expected. Despite this, I was still able to get the part completed within 24 hours and ahead of his deadline of 48 hours.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would look for someone who gives you priority, i.e. calls you back quickly, keeps you informed of the progress etc. I pride myself on making every customer feel like they are at the top of my list.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Customers should have a very clear idea of what they want. The more information you can provide me, the faster and more accurate the first attempt will be. Sometimes customers do not have a clear idea of the product specifics (dimensions, how it will be powered, etc) and this is fine. But if this is the case, you have to expect it will take a few rounds of back and forth to get the design the way you want it.
