Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Yes. We work to accommodate our client’s budgets, while also presenting estimates that are realistic and fulfill the goals of the client. Clients and their projects are unique. Each have many common elements, but also there are issues that vary and impact time and expenses. Generally costs for design projects reflect the goals and objectives of the client. While an hourly rate of $115 is used to estimate projects, client budgets and schedules also impact our estimates.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Introductory meeting to assess the project and determine goals and objectives of the project. This is a good time to also make sure that budgets and deadlines are sufficient to accomplish the project to meet all parties expectations. Budget and schedule presented and approved. Advance payments (depending on project size) Presentation of rough comprehensive designs and direction Revised design if necessary Final art ready for web, print production, etc. Final Billing

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
BA in Advertising and Graphic Design. Continued seminar and training throughout my career. Have taught and led design and marketing course work at college level.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Was involved in art and design as a child, and gravitated to the industry as a teen.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
A very broad range including Not For Profit, Non-Profit, Construction Companies, Publishing, Entertainment, Individual Entertainers, Writers, Educational, etc. etc.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Hualalai Village. A 400 unit condo project on the Big Island of Hawaii. I was responsible for corporate ID, all marketing materials, advertising design and media buying and coordination. Overwhelming success. Ad campaign was a triumph, and the promotional materials were visually stunning. Website presented units, as well as sold the vision for the project and the beauty of the location.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure the designer knows how to discuss communication. Making things pretty is easy. Making those pieces visually stunning while at the same time generating bottom line results for the client is the real measure of success. Doing this well is not usually inexpensive. So, don't always go with the least costly provider. Experience and talent are a combination worth the extra bucks in the long run.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is it you really want to accomplish? Who is your primary competition? What is it you really do for your customer/client? What brings your customer/client back? Clearly think through your message? What are the key words needed? Who is your audience - really? What are your ten most marketable strengths - why? What are your ten most vulnerable weakness - why? Are you willing to have an honest working relationship with your graphic designer? What would that include? What are you willing to do to establish budgets that are reflective of what is required to accomplish the work with excellence on all levels? What images will work - what images will not work? Why?
