Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For bartenders $250/person For servers, set-up/breakdown $150 (can change on # of hours) For catering (prices will vary on # of guests and types of food)

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Finding out if they know what they want to have....some people really don't have an idea in mind. Asking questions help me determine what they are looking for. It can be a walking process but one well worth it once its done.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I use to work in event planning years ago with my boyfriend, now partner in life...I loved it! You meet many interesting and new people in this business. Sometimes future contacts. It is a constant learning process from those who are in the business, who give you tips or pointers along the way.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
It started with my 47th and my sons 8th birthdays. I wanted a party and I made it a double celebration. Since then I've done events for a Sickle Cell Foundation, I am connected with (I also have Sickle Cell Disease) thru another of my businesses, in Fashion Shows. I also catered most of food as well.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Mostly in collaboration with a Sickle Cell Foundation, a mom-to-be, children event (Easter Egg Hunt).

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
My 50th birthday, my most recent project. I didn't think it would go well because I down-sized on location. It actually worked out because it was a more intimate setting.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Finding the place for your setting is key and locking in the date ( by a deposit) is most important. Places tend to fill up on a monthly basis, especially if they are popular for events. I tend to start early in the year, depending on what I want to do, and start buying things for early that I will need. Sometimes you can find deals by shopping around.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What type of event do I want? Will it have a theme? Specific color theme? Location? Number of Guests? Food type and budget (if any). What services will I need...ex, set up/breakdown, servers, bartenders, self-serve, etc.
