What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

MJE Catering provides quality menu items at an affordable and competitive a la carte price. You know your crowd and your event theme better than we do, so we price this way so you can build a package that best suits your needs instead of us boxing you into a package deal that doesn't really work for your group. You can order as many or as few (really 15) of any menu item you desire. We run regular specials and promotions - ask us what we have cookin' this month!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First we’ll need you to complete our initial inquiry form. It may seem a bit redundant since you've already given Thumbtack some of this information, but it helps us have all your event information in one place. Once we decide upon your menu selections, we’ll create a quote for you. If all looks well, you’ll accept the quote and we require a 50% deposit to hold your date.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've had a passion for food since a young age. It wasn't long before my family and friends made me the go-to cook for all of our events. I've found a way to blend my passion with skill and create an amazing career for myself and others.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Our customers run the gamut from corporate clients to social events. Some big names we've worked with include: Uber PayPal Monumental Sports H&M Department of Justice Homeland Security Gallaudet University Georgetown University GW University Howard University University of Maryland

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

We don't typically take jobs that aren't a good fit, so we're fond of all of the clients/events we work with. Each event presents it's own challenges and has limitless creative possibilities. We love working with clients who allow us to branch off from the norm.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Take your time, get quotes and make a conscious decision when picking your caterer. Make sure they’re licensed and insured. Inquire about/visit the facility where your food is being prepared. Make sure it’s not food being prepared in someone’s home. Attend a tasting, if they are available. Remember guests will talk about your event if the food was bad.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Clients should know the bulk of their event details -- date, time, venue, set-up needs, and a general idea about the menu they'd like for their event.
