Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I typically price by the room, with all materials supplied and included in the price. If the customer wants to supply their own paint, that will be taken in to account. Also, there will be a discount for multi-room jobs.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First, we will have a phone discussion so I can get an idea of the scope of the job (rooms, timing, etc). Then we will set up a time to meet at the job site so I can take measurements needed for an estimate. I'll work up a detailed estimate and present it to the customer, and once the work is agreed upon, we will set up a time to start.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Several years of painting experience including working for a paint and renovation company, as well as paid freelance paint work, and several personal home renovations.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I periodically painted my own bedroom in high school for a change of scenery, and even painted the exterior of my parent's two story house when I was 16 years old. I enjoy transformation a room goes through with painting and do so whenever possible!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Property managers, and residential home owners.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently painted multiple rooms in a house that was going to be put on the market. This included two hallways, three bathrooms, two bedrooms, the laundry room and a vanity room. The rooms were various colors originally, and I painted them all the same. It gave the home a better flow and improved cohesiveness and connection. I also made some necessary minor wall repairs. This took three and a half days from start to finish, including prep and clean up.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure your requirements have been fully understood, and ask any questions you may have. Most painters should be able to give you a detailed room by room cost as well.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Which rooms do I want painted? Which surfaces need to be painted? Walls, ceiling, trim, doors?Do I want the same color or something different? Do I have any special paint requirements (a particular brand or type)? When do I need this done? Is the painter insured?
