Introduction

My name is Nick, I am owner of Oak City Coatings, here in the Triangle. I help homeowners, business owners, property managers, and contractors achieve high-quality paint and coatings project results by focusing on customer service, fair pricing, and most importantly, quality results. I started Oak City Coatings to help clients by solving problems and providing solutions unique to each project. In turn, increasing customer satisfaction in initial and long-term results. I spent more than a decade working for Sherwin-Williams in both management and outside sales, serving customers in both residential and commercial markets. I realized my passion for helping my customers went beyond the paint store and decided to bring my knowledge directly to your doorstep.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our pricing is unique to each and every customer based on each individuals wants and needs. We customize each estimate to fit your goals and your budget by offering custom tailored options and solutions.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Our Process: 1. Get a free estimate: To book a spot in our schedule, we require a 25% deposit & authorization by signature to do the work described in the contract. 2. After reserving a spot with us: We will be in contact with you to start talking about the initial steps and a potential start date. On this call we will also address any other concerns or details that need to be managed prior to starting work on your home. 3. 4 weeks before the start date: We'll provide test patches for you to ensure that you like your color selection. For exterior jobs: at this point we will also provide anything you need for approval from your HOA. 4. Once you have selected your colors and they have been approved by your homeowners’ association, it is time to schedule a rough start date! 5. The week leading up to the job you can expect phone calls to keep you updated on the estimated start date and any changes due to weather or unforeseen delays in our work schedule. Please keep in mind that we can see all four seasons in one day in North Carolina, so we request that you understand your start date may change slightly. 6. Before starting the job, we will power wash the house for all exterior jobs. 7. During the job, we will let you know what time you can expect us to start work each day. We will talk with you daily about the progress of the job and any concerns so we can address those right away. 8. At the end of the job, we’ll take you around the house to do any last touch-ups before we ask for the final payment. We would also appreciate it if you would fill out a short survey letting us know how the process was for you. Your feedback is very valuable to us! We would also appreciate any referrals or a reference letter to express your satisfaction with the work we do and with our company.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I spent more than a decade working for the largest paint and coatings company in the world, serving customers in both residential and commercial markets both in management and outside sales.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I grew up in a DIY family right here in Cary, NC working on home projects with my dad and brothers. After graduating from Appalachian State University I accepted a position with Sherwin-Williams in their management training program. I then spent more than a decade working for the largest paint and coatings company in the world, serving customers in both residential and commercial markets both in management and outside sales. I realized my passion for helping my customers went beyond the paint store and decided to bring my knowledge directly to your doorstep. I started Oak City Coatings to further help clients solve problems and provide solutions unique to each and every project. In turn increasing customer satisfaction, long term results and relationships.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have overseen thousands of small to large scale projects, both in the residential and commercial markets from initial color inquiries to finished projects. Oak City Coatings' primary focus is sharing industry knowledge, treating all customers with respect, integrity, and clear communication. We strive to deliver the highest quality for every one of our projects.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would recommend to a customer who is looking to hire a professional paint contractor is doing some research on the company. Do they have a website, social media accounts, google my business page, etc.? Are they involved with any local or national organizations? Do they carry and have current insurance and workers comp policies? What kind of warranties do that offer to back up their work? Look for companies that are easy to find and have timely communication. I've seen too many customers get burned by "fly by night" or "ghost" contractors.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Is there something that either needs or you would like painted? Great!! Not sure?? We will give you a full site assessment during our estimate to see if we recommend painting this year or if your current paint job has a little more life left. During that estimate and your optional but also free color consultation, we will cover a lot of information and review frequently asked questions with you. One of our companies core values is education, not only for ourselves but also in educating our customers. Don't worry; we will give you a few things to think about and maybe even a little bit of homework; however, our goal is to make the process as easy and confidence-inspiring as possible!
