TruBlue will keep you updated as to the progress of the job, and will only accept payment when you are truly happy. We follow the PA Home Improvement Contractor laws for your protection.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I spent most of my career in healthcare technology and worked for large organizations. I found myself disenchanted with Corporate America and wanted to do positive work in my community. This led me to the nonprofit world, where I worked with low-income seniors. I met so many seniors who had health issues because of unsafe home environments. When I found out about a business that specialized in helping seniors stay safe in their home, I knew that I found my knew work home. I also have experience flipping homes, so residential construction is not new to me.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Here at TruBlue Home Service Ally, I have been fortunate to meet many different homeowners across the region. We have also worked in the commercial space, which is quite different but also rewarding. I will admit that I have a soft spot for seniors, so I have really enjoyed meeting some wonderful people in the community.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently, we repaired a retaining wall that was hit by a vehicle. The owner was given several bids to replace the wall instead of repairing it. We were able to salvage enough block to repair the wall while only requiring 10 new block. To make to wall look uniform, we placed the new block on the bottom layer and kept the original wall visible. The result was impressive. We saved the customer thousands over replacing it.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Oftentimes, the "lowest" price is not the lowest. Many handymen and contractors do not follow the requirements necessary regarding insurance and contracts. If you are going to hire a company/individual and the amount is over $500, a contract is required that meets the PA Home Improvement Contractor requirements. These include a 3-day right to cancel, contract requirements, down payment maximums, and insurance requirements. If you conduct business with someone who does not have a HICPA number, you run several risks. They may not show up, and you have no recourse. They could get hurt on your property, which falls on YOUR insurance if they do not have any. They can fail to finish or do a job incorrectly, and it is difficult to pursue legal action without the contract. TruBlue recommends that you get a contract that follows the "PA Home Improvement Contractor" rules. Don't base everything on price. You have to live with the result. Check for a certificate of insurance, and a crime bond, and ask the contractor to guarantee their work.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

When can you start, and how long will it take? Are you insured? Do you accept credit cards? Do you finance? Do you perform background checks on your employees? Are there different ways to do your project?
