Our company now offers the ability to Design & Build with 12 crews as a part of our team at MALA LLC. The bonus is that you have an expert Landscape Architect with the unique ability to design and build the entire job. We design pools, spools & all types of projects. We design and build patios, retaining walls, fireplaces, fire pits, terraces and surrounding landscape and irrigation. We also specialize in LED lights. We care about what we do and take pride in making sure every aspect of the project is handled with care and respect for our clients and their properties. My team provides adequate attention to detail and makes the entire process of the project an enjoyable and FUN experience. With Mike's 30+ years of experience, he always develop a great plan, competitive bid, and install the project exactly as designed in the set amount time the client requires. No waiting 6 weeks or 12 weeks and then we will be out. We can usually be on the project within a week. Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Sure. Most typical residential landscape plans are $1000 to $1,500 for 1/3rd acre lot. If the project is larger than that, I can work hourly at $110/hr. Design fees can be refunded partially or fully if I build your project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Introductions and find out a little bit about a person's background and family. Then, I get right down to business and explore the goals, wants, needs and defined budget for the project. Everyone is busy and there is not a lot of time to waste. I also strongly appreciate referrals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a (BLA) bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture (5 year degree program that is now considered a Master's for the same work). I also minored in Horticulture and am passionate about plants.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Stumbled on it in college. Also - my father was a great Landscape Architect and practiced for 40 + years. I learned from the best.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I feel like I have worked with about every type of customer. I enjoy working closely with clients that appreciate my talents and really want to create a special outdoor space or unique project. Higher end residential projects (pools, patios, master plans) are my specialty customers. I have also worked with many commercial clients.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
On 11-12 and 11-13-16, my crew and I installed a magnificent landscape enhancement to a new outdoor space from Berry OLC in Blue Springs, MO. The client had an outdoor room enclosure added with feaux wood concrete floors, Dektile, an outdoor fireplace, grill and sink. Berry OLC also provided a separate firepit hot tub location and extended terrace with LED lighting. My crew added around $15,000 worth of limestone edge rock, large flagstones, topsoil, trees, grasses and perennials and repaired and added irrigation. The client requested rock mulch over fabric and we installed 14 tons! The project looks incredible.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
You should choose quality over the cheapest price. You get what you pay for! Also - a plant guarantee is important!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It takes a lot of time to design and develop a landscape plan. Please understand that I have 30 years of experience into each plan and it is done by a professional. My compensation should reflect this.
