Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I quote most of my work by the job. Smaller check list items I charged by the hour.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Once initial contact is made I like to have photos and details of what the customer is looking for, as well what the current space looks like. Once I confirm the work is within my wheelhouse, I come over to take measurements and photos. I then provide a detailed estimate and dates available for scheduling. Once work and estimate is agreed upon I will ask for a deposit up front, this helps weed out the folks that aren't serious and covers some materials to get started. Most often I request 50% up front with the balance due once the project is completed. For projects estimated to take more than two weeks to complete a pay schedule contract will be put into place.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have been trained in construction by some of the industries most talented carpenters. At the start of my career I was trained by one of Hollwoods top prop carpenters. He was the lead carpenter for several large film costumes and movie props, such as the Iron man, Transformer and Hunger games to name a few. This guy was an incredible mentor and teacher and taught me a lot of what I know when it comes to finish carpentry.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My grandfather was an engineer for the Air Force by trade and wood worker by hobby. I spent my childhood in his shop watching him build furniture and houses for himself. I've gained most of my knowledge over the years from him and then also from begin obsessed with "This Old House" and similar house flipping shows. I Spent several years working under a licensed general contractor before taking the leap of faith to open my own company in 2017.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Any and all!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
My partner and I recently completed a full basement remodel. The basement was unfinished and the homeowner wanted a modern transformation to finishing the basement so she could comfortably hold breathwork workshops in the space. The project took just over 3 months to complete. We also have a knack for closet build outs, flooring, and painting.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Follow your gut and inner intuition. Experience and knowledge is key. Ask questions to figure out who you are hiring. Ask for recommendations or reviews from past clients. Always ask to see proof that they do the work they claim.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Just be realistic with yourself about budget, time line, expectations and use clear communication to achieve a stress free space transformation!
