What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We offer discounts and seasonal project promotions!
Where are you located?
Horicon, WI and Germantown, WI. We do not charge travel fees and all estimates are free.
Are there costs associated with booking through Thumbtack?
You, as the customer, are not charged anything for estimates or booking appointments. The contractor is charged based on what your project size is, but this is not charged back to you - it's just another cost of doing business.
Are you licensed to do this project?
We are fully licensed and insured for residential and light commercial. We also have bonds through our sister company for large commercial and industrial projects.
When can I expect the project to start?
If a permit is necessary, this can take up to 90 days for the permit to go through. We start within 30 days of receiving the permit. If not permit is necessary, we typically book out between 60-90 days, on average.
How much will this project cost? Can you give me numbers before seeing the project?
We have pricing on our website, and during the initial phone call, we will update you on the costs of the project before coming on site to ensure we are respectful of both of our time. We want to make sure this is a good fit before committing on either side.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
1. **************************************************************
2. We ask about the customer's project and get a general idea of the home's needs.
3. We set a date and time to come out and look at the project in person.
4. An estimation of the project takes place and is sent out to the customer within 48 hours.
5. If the estimated price is accepted, we begin scheduling and procure the project deposit.
6. On the agreed date and time, we begin your home project after an initial walk through. We complete a daily walkthrough with our customers throughout the project.
7. When the project is completed, we have a final walk-through together to ensure customer satisfaction.
8. The certificate of completion is finalized and final payment is received.
9. All documents are given to the customer in the form of a project portfolio.
10. Process re-starts with your next project!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We are a fully licensed and insured company. We have general contractor licensing as well as dwelling contractor certifications. All members of the team must complete annual courses in order to work on our projects. All contractors follow a strict code of conduct. Our contractors are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education courses/classes on code requirements and trade applicable information annually.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
The owner got his start in the trades from his father. He owned a tile and stone company in Canyon Lake, TX and Denver, CO before that. From the age of 6, he showed a high interest in his father's skills of building and working with his hands. He was on residential jobsites that his father ran alongside his other family members. When he started hearing negative experiences with contractors from friends and family, he decided to take it upon himself to turn the stigma from the "average contractor." We, as a team, want what's best for the customer and hope to provide a seamless experience!
What types of customers have you worked with?
King Stud Carpentry is not bias to our customer base and would love to provide great services to everyone. It's about the experience our customers leave with and the project getting done right the first time that keeps us going.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently, we completed a basement remodel for a disabled air force veteran. They were a pleasure to work with and we were excited to assist on his project. The project consisted of rigid board insulation, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, tape/mud/texture/paint, egress window installation (with egress well and cover), a basement bathroom addition, a bedroom addition, dry storage, a family room, a flex room, under stairs storage space, access panels, closets, and tile installation. This project was an all hands on deck project. It took us roughly 8 weeks to complete.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
There are many things to look for in a carpenter/remodeler. The best advice I can give is to do as much research on your project as you can before booking an appointment. Are you accounting for average price in your area? Have you thought about the amount of electricity/water the contractor may need to use on your project? Do you have a reasonably available schedule for the contractor to contact you on important remodeling questions or decisions?
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Familiarize yourself with the costs associated with your project. Have a general idea of designs, styles, colors, etc. before your first estimate. Some contractors (including us) have drafting/designing/engineering in-house. With this, you get unlimited possibilities. With our software, you can see the completed project before we touch a hammer. This way, you are able to make changes as necessary before the project begins so that we can provide the best possible scenario to complete the project accurately and expeditiously.
