Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We will work within your budget. We cannot control the cost of materials, but we can come up with unique solutions to fit our clients' needs and desires. We even offer multi-phased projects, we will build the project to be functional at each stage, leaving room & keeping in mind that more will be added to the project down the road. This allows our customers to enjoy the project and see it transform over the years at a pace they are comfortable with.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically, we like to get to know the new customer, learn about how they intend to use the outdoor space, and discuss options such as material choice, color, design aspects, and go from there.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
More than two decades of building brick paver patios in and around Oakland County. Delivered results, both Residential and Commercial projects. During that same time period, we've also completely revamped landscapes, built numerous outdoor kitchens, bars, retaining walls, steps & stairs, walkways & pathways, landings & porches and more. We work closely with the brick supply yards and manufacturers to bring to each project the latest & greatest in materials and workmanship.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started JLR Brick Pavers & Landscaping more than two decades ago. I loved being outside and working with my hands and I was never afraid of hard work. I always knew I wanted to own my own business and that I wanted the freedom to enjoy some downtime in the winter months raising my children and being part of their daily activities. JLR Brick Pavers & Landscaping has made that dream a reality.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Both residential and commercial customers. We enjoy most working with residential customers, knowing that our customers come home to something we built, entertain their friends and family in spaces we helped bring to life, celebrate graduations and weddings standing on the brick we built for them - it means the world to us.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We took an older deck, crumbling cinderblock retaining walls, and a pretty steep (and dangerous) concrete ramp that led out of a walk-up basement and transformed that entire exterior with leveled & beautiful steps, pillars, a landing, and ultimately building up to a new brick paver patio. We installed lights throughout the brick and even into the surrounding landscape. We are very proud of that project.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Go with the contractor that has your best interests at heart. The best price doesn't always mean the best deal. JLR Brick Pavers & Landscaping cares about the ultimate outcome and we will be up front about the scale, size, and complexity of the project even if we know it may cost us your business. We want to win your business and we'll also be honest with you every step of the way.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What their intended size requirements for the project are? Whether they envision needing lighting installed in the project? Whether they envision needing a gas line run as part of the project? Whether they will need financing for the project? How they will fund the project? How soon they intend to begin the project? How soon they need the project to be completed? Whether they have any color or material preferences?
