Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My labor is $70 per hour for gardening, weekly maintenance, planting seasonal containers, and Spring and Fall cleanups. This does not include materials such as plants, fertilizer, soil, etc. Landscape design and installation are priced individually because they vary from project to project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to respond promptly by phone or email. If that goes well, then I like to set up a meeting with the client at the work site to actually see the space and discuss the project they have in mind. We can then talk about their needs, how they want to be able to use the area, ideas, and wish list. From there we can discuss my suggestions and options and I can give them an idea of price.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Degree in Horticulture, U of Guelph, Ontario. 30 + years experience in landscaping design/build in Minnesota, Brooklyn, NY, Naples, Florida, and California

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
It was all my mother's fault. Every time we moved into a new home she would re-design and plant the landscaping, or add landscaping if there wasn't any. We always had a huge vegetable garden (which us kids got to weed) and beautiful flowers around us!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All. Homeowners to commercial projects.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I worked with a wonderful customer this past summer. She wanted to clean up and upgrade her perennial gardens. She loved peonies, irises, spring bulbs, tulips, etc. and I must have planted over a hundred for her this summer! We are both looking forward to Spring!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
A garden/landscape can be many things to different people. It can be a very quiet personal space for some people, or a outdoor party space for others. Ask lots of questions and listen

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Their budget. Compile a list of ideas and things they like. Go to my Pinterest page to find lots of ideas! Terry OBryan or Tleeobryan
