Introduction

| Closed in 2021; COVID career pivot | I aim to make my clients feel like rockstars, whether it's an image for business use or their career. Everyone deserves to be pampered. I have a unique business model serving primarily professional women... I like to say I'm a triple threat; photographer, hairstylist, makeup artist. I combine all 3 to create Polished Professional Images. As for the makeup artist thing- rest assured, I specialize in natural- yet classy, everyday looks. This yields polished imagery for your business; business cards, website, social media, print collateral, and book jackets. I'm lucky enough to have a comfortable styling room and portrait studio, that create an idyllic setting to pamper & prep you for your session. Please reach out with questions by email, phone/text, or simply book online from my website.

Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Many, many, many photography courses, and a license in cosmetology (hair/makeup). My most recent in person workshop was with New York Headshot Photographer, Peter Hurley. I'm an information junkie. I feel like there's always more to learn, and new ways to recreate and repurpose the same techniques and get new results.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I've been styling friends & family for photoshoots since I was in my teens- so that's 30 years! I've worked for national photo chains, taken college courses, assisted photographers, and studied and read everything I could get my hands on in both photography, and cosmetology for as long as I can remember. Where film was frustrating, digital is satisfying, because we KNOW what we are getting before we process the negatives. My combined knowledge of hair/makeup, posing, and photography gives me a strong skillset to create dynamic images.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
My clientele tends to be mainly professional women; from executives to entrepreneurs, in business and the arts. I tend to attract friendly, yet driven women with a passion for living life to the fullest. My clients often have a solid unique streak running through them, and can appreciate the lengths we go to to get that perfect shot!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Spend a bit of time choosing your headshot professional, and preparing yourself for the shoot. Then don't be afraid to indulge a little, both in the time and money you spend to create an image you're proud of.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I try to start with these questions in consultation with my clients... What do you need the picture for now, what uses might you have for images in the near future? Do you have a logo, or website theme that you'd like your image to coordinate with? What's the overall feeling you want to convey to the viewer? Confidence, approachability, welcoming, caring, competent leader, free-spirited, etc? If you know these answers, then you can more easily convey to the professionals what you're looking for. There are as many styles of headshots as there are types of art. If you can find a sample image of the type of headshot you'd like of yourself, the lighting and feeling can be mimicked.
