Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My headshots start at $225 and go up from there. If you'd like professional make up services (highly recommended) that is an additional fee! Your headshot is the most important part of your online portfolio. You want it to reflect the best version of you.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
"I hate the way I look in photos" or "I hate getting my picture taken" is usually the first thing I hear from a new customer. My response, "Well, good for me then because it's my job to make you feel comfortable and look good in photos!" This exchange typically happens via email at first. We will usually schedule the shoot this way. Then as the date gets closer I will contact the customer via phone or e-mail and discuss the style of the shoot, clothing and whether they've decided on hair and make-up services. It's pretty straightforward.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I studied at the New York Institute of Photography where I learned everything there is to learn about the technical aspects of photography and received a certification in photography from there. Then I was a student under some of the top professionals in the world including Sue Bryce, Annie Leibovitz, Felix Kunze and Peter Hurley on posing, lighting, composition and connection! I continue my training from Sue Bryce, an award winning photographer and educator.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I've been taking photos almost my whole life. It wasn't until recently that I watched a very successful's photographer's work and got inspired to do what I love professionally.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I specialize in working with people who need professional branding, such as corporate headshots and actor/modeling portfolios. I've also photographed generations and have been commissioned to shoot commercial and editorial photoshoots.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I was recently commissioned to shoot 50 pairs of pants for a major online retailer. The shoot took about 5 hours and the post production work took about another 5. It was a long day, but it was fun working with all the people involved.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Do not always choose the cheapest photographer. Some photographers are just hobbyists and there is nothing wrong with that, but make sure if they are the cheapest that they have the education and skills necessary to produce you a great headshot. Spend some money on a professional. You won't be disappointed.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It's good to have some idea of how you'd like to be photographed. For example, are you looking for a solid color background or environmental shot? Also, how many images do need? Will the photographer you're hiring retouch the images or is that extra? What is the turnaround time?
